Usually when the studio releases these summaries they give you a pretty clear idea of the characters and the basic conflict. Case in point is the 2009 film in which it laid out how to outcast from different worlds must get over their conflict and work together. Simple, to be sure, but well written and defined.

This summary left me baffled beyond reason. What the hell is this movie about?
DETONATION.

Fleets. Worlds. Friendships. Love.

All will be detonated!

It's clear we all should have been on the advertising team for the new film.

He wants a remake. If ever was one it would go straight to DVD.
Of course. There's no market for it.

I'm perfectly content with the Director's Cut. It's not going to get any better than it already is, logistically speaking. It's a film that is a product of the times, and even if it's not perfect, it holds a special place in the hearts of many trekkies that saw it as their first Trek film ever. It's got some fine performances, has some wonderful character scenes between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, and it would just be strange to see a remake. Perfect or not, it deserves to be left alone.
V'Ger is perfect to deal with. If 2001 is popular still today, I'm fairly certain that TMP re-made minus the fluff will be just as fantastic.

" for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."

Does this imply that Kirk's mother and brother are killed off in this movie?
My theory is no. I have a strong feeling that the person who is going to make this "personal" for Kirk is Admiral Pike. My money is they are going to kill Pike off.

But it wouldn't make any money. Certainly not enough to cover Into Darkness' $185 million budget.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Synopsis Revealed!!

It sounds like it will probably be a nice action flick. I'm not sure about detonating a fleet. Detonating, to me, is done with an explosive device. Warp cores can detonate, so I guess they blew up the ships?? It doesn't matter. Explosions in action movies are good. I read a lot of "Kirk"s. If this movie picks up right after the next one then how do they become like family that fast? I just hope the next movie can be about Spock (with some focus on Uhura, and if they stay together...), especially since that's looking to be Zachary's (or this crew's) last.

Heart of Darkness is by Joseph Conrad.
-and he also wrote Lord Jim! That's a huge clue.
Kirk is the Squire of Gothos!

After Abrams signs off, we can have Michael Bay's Star Trek.

No offense to him, but avoiding someone like Michael Bay doing Star Trek is exactly why JJ was needed in the director's chair.
