Re: Two and a Half Men star calls show 'filth', wants us to stop watch

So it seems he's in a pre-apocalyptic seventh day adventist drama now where he gets to be a big star since he has this awesome testimony full of.. "and then I was doing drugs.. and I was really selfish.." the kid is 19!

So some actual quotes:

"would it be possible to create a celebrity status that made god appealing to people"

That's apparently the grand plan,

Because you know you don't want to give up the celebrity part.

"and he showed me what the bible taught about hell and I was like, wow this seems really awesome"

I swear this is much funnier than Two and a Half Men.

So let's see if I understand things: this guy doesn't want to be on the show, but rather than having the balls to walk away he's staying on it, accepting a "filthy" pay check which is probably more per episode than most of us are paid in a year. And on top of everything, he's telling people not to watch it on religious grounds?

At least Charlie Sheen was funny the way he left. This is just sad.

I'm sure he's still cashing the checks and will continue to collect residuals for a very, very long time.

I keep thinking this is a Joaquin Phoenix sort of thing. Some kind of bad joke or publicity stunt for something else...

He makes 350,000 per episode.

That's a whole lot of filth, it must be quite a burden.

If he quits, they'll sue him, which will make him unhireable and poor.

If he acts like an asshole, they'll fire him and he's legally sound.

Jennifer Beals went on some extreme benders and bad girl antics trying to get thrown off the set of Seventh Heaven but the Producers were resistant no matter how badly she whored it up with the drugs and booze.

Any sitcom with a laugh track is bad.

Ain't that the truth.

Any show that needs to tell the viewers when to laugh, is - by definition - not funny enough.

This show itself may not be the work of the devil, but laugh tracks definitely are.
If I like the show enough, I find that I can ignore the laugh track pretty easily.

The only show that I actively watch where you can hear the laughs is The Red Green Show. And even then, it's not a laugh track - it's a studio audience. Not only that, but the audience is literally part of the show itself. So those are the reasons I can let it go.

Yeah, but shows like Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory are all shot before a live studio audience. The shows may record the audience responses and drop them in later, but that doesn't detract from the audience reaction to those shows. And on shows like Mother, scenes will be pre-taped and shown to the audiences in sequence for tapings precisely so their reactions can be recorded. So I'm really not getting your point.

Personally I think making out with Miley Sirus is undesirable and toxic, however I also realise that I'm in a minority.

Her new hair cut doesn't help either.

It's not really kissing.

But there's still bragging rights.

My point is, I always associate the term "laugh track" with machine-generated laughter. If this is no longer accurate, then that's good, and I stand corrected.

As I said, though, it's easy for me to let it slide with Red Green because in that show, the performers openly speak directly to the audience - the show is about a show. (Basically it's what Home Improvement would have been like if it was all "Tool Time".) Even if modern laugh tracks *are* studio audiences, it's not quite the same thing.

Eh, he's free to believe what he wants, but he's more than a bit of a hypocrite as it stands right now.

I feel a little sorry for him because rich and sorta famous people get sucked dry by churches who are desperate to display them as trophies. But I only feel a little sorry because of his age. Stay tuned for sordid ex-boyfriend and/or girlfriend reports and grainy snaps of him coming out of nightclubs in the future, something no one would pay attention to if he hadn't climbed up that pedestal.
