I *really* like your concept, Vektor, but the architecture seems more Cardassian than Federation to me. Of course, since you said you're straying from the book description, I don't know if that was on purpose or not.
Yeah, it definitely has a Cardassian vibe to it.

I think that's stretching it a bit to be honest. It's only really the pylons that give that impression IMO; and the ovoid Bajoran design is far more prevalent.

Regarding the "sense of motion" concern that has been commented on, perhaps if the design were turned on its (current) head? The station would then have the appearance of the Bajoran insignia from the PoV of the wormhole itself, and the Prophets/Celestial Temple - which I imagine would appeal more to the Bajorans...

I found this on deviant art. Could be a good contender

Interesting, but the conflicting scale of the details are sending my sense of scale for the whole thing into fits.

I love that design concept, but yeah, some of the detailing is conflicting in scale

To me, it sounds like that description used in the book is HEAVILY influenced by both the Federation Headquarters station depicted in the Franz Joseph technical manual and modification of the spherical Spacedock shown in Trek 2009.
