Kyle Chandler. Every day he gets a comm message from the future and has to set about trying to prevent the disasters described in it.

Sigh, I miss Early Edition.

Oh I could totally see him as one friendly captain who gives stern fatherly talking-tos.

I remember that show! I couldn't remember it's name (and had no idea the lead was Kyle Chandler, it's been a while) but I used to watch that a lot.

Good choice I like Adrian as an actor and I think he'd be really good as a Cardassian should he ever get a part in any trek series.

Jeffrey Combs as every character in the regular cast.

Or, Chief Medical Officer Herbert West.

Just channelling Game of Thrones here, but Peter Dinklage for any role, and Sean Bean as the ultimate red shirt.

Not related to the above (really!), but I've long thought Lena Headey would be a perfect Captain.
Preferably the first non-human Captain. Oh, and the first homosexual Captain as well.

Related to the above: Dinklage as a recurring/main cast Tellarite would be great as well.

Or just Star Trek's first human dwarf, to channel Miles Vorkosigan a bit.

Also other captain choices:
Connie Britton
Robert Wisdom
Sidse Babett Knudsen
