There is a difference between a concept being an allegory, and the execution of the concept being all about the allegory. Singer in 1, 2 and most of 3 spent far too much time on the philosophising, and nowhere near enough time on the "POW! BAM! ZAP!"
Ah, yes, this old plaint again, which completely ignores the budget and special effects realities behind X1, the fact that the very much "spandex-embracing" Batman and Robin was still a fresh memory in people minds, and the fact that the most "out-there" X-movies, X3 and Origins, are also by far the worst.

No, no, do go on, good sir! These complaints are in no way tired, worn, and not terribly applicable to DOFP, considering X1 was first developed over thirteen years ago!

Fair point, but he didn't have to continue the trend in 2 and most of 3.

the fact that the very much "spandex-embracing" Batman and Robin was still a fresh memory in people minds,
Apples and oranges. "Ebrace the spandex" does not mean camp and stupid. Schumacher set out to make a Dark Knight/Adam West hybrid movie and it (predictably) blew up on him.

and the fact that the most "out-there" X-movies, X3 and Origins, are also by far the worst.
The most "out there" movie is FC, and it's by far the BEST X-film. It's also the one Singer had the least to do with.

^ I'm not sure how you make that out, given that he had a 'story by' and producer credit on FC whereas he had no credit on either TLS or Wolverine.

There are already rumors that Vaughn dropped this movie in order to be the director for Star Wars Episode VII.

To be fair, nothing Singer's done since co-writing Apocalypse Now has really made good on his early promise...

He'll drop out of that anyway.

Don't you mean he will drop out of Episode VIII if he does Episode VII?

I doubt it. Old Lucas looks content to retire and sometimes swim in his huge pool filled with money.

I'm glad he is going to once again let other directors have a go at his Star Wars universe.

Vaughn: Episode VII
Singer: Episode VIII
Ratner: Episode IX

There is more "mutants=gays" moralizing in FC than in all the other films combined.

See, the problem here is that people were SO hurt by what Singer did to THEIR vision of Superman that they've re-written everything else he's done in their mind to fit their new thoughts on him.

Things like not noticing obvious writing ("Mutant and proud", if this didn't smash you on the skull as obvious, then you're too young to be in an X-Men movie), or simply reading the credits on movies (heh, least to do with FC over TLS? That's classic)

I thought Singer had nothing at all to do with The Last Stand?

In some people's rewritten version of their history, that's incorrect.

Re: X-MEN: Days Of Future Past (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Is Ian Keldon just ignoring facts about Bryan Singer or something? I understand not liking his work or whatever, but to say that First Class was the movie that he had done the least work on...that's just plain wrong. I've already pointed out a number of times the amount of work that Singer did on First Class...the script was written from Singer's own treatment for crying out loud! He also helped cast the film. Worked right up to production on it basically, and very nearly directed it. I don't know how anyone could say that he did the least on. Once again...if not for Singer we would not have got the movie we did.
