Re: Best version of supported Windows

I'd say XP. Like 7 ok enough, but have had 3 crashes with it -_-. Never had as much of a problem with XP.

XP was good but Windows 7 was great.

Am currently trying to get my head around Windows 8, which is fairly easy. Why they'd remove the Start Menu is beyond me. Was there ever an official reason, other than to replace it with Metro?

I think that is the official reason: they want you to get used to the "Metro way" of doing things.

Exactly. That is the official reason. Microsoft wants the same interface throughout all of its products (desktop and laptop Windows, Surface, Windows Phone, Xbox).

So far, 8 has worked great for me in every respect (in conjunction with MS Office 15 aka MS Office 365/2013).

Have been evaluating it since July, performing both softcore Gaming and work related tasks.

Re: Best version of supported Windows

I don't know about 8 yet. I have heard a few bad things about it but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.

I had XP until very recently (May this year) and it was always a good reliable OS. I have Vista now (because I already had a disc for it and didn't want to buy 7) and I actually quite like it. Any problems it has I can easily deal with, and it's behaved pretty well anyway- barely any more trouble than XP. I also like the Vista/XP style taskbar better than 7. However, 7 is much more reliable and user friendly than Vista, so I'll go with that.

I was evaluating Office 15 as well but I had to take it off as Excel just kept crashing, even when it was sitting idle.

Otherwise I find it a good setup.
