And I'm okay with that.

As long as I don't die before it's released, I'm happy.

No I expect this to be May 2015...........All SW movies have been May releases.

Was going to post a new thread but then I realised it might fit better here.

So Disney has taken over LucasFilm which includes ILM. With ILM presumably doing the visual effects for the new Star Wars movies could this have any impact on the Star Trek movies? Into Darkness is pretty much a done deal at this point but could Paramount be required to search for a new visual effects company for future films?

I recall when the Star Wars prequels were being made ILM wasn't available to do the visual effects for Insurrection or Nemesis. The results weren't pretty. Same thing for The Final Frontier and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Disney would be getting in their own way, then. The Avengers sequel is scheduled for May 1, 2015.

Trailers normally don't come out the day after a movie is announced.

This secrecy will be the downfall of Episode VII.

I see your point. I really wish star trek 13 will come out in 2015 however I know Paramount would be scared to do that now because the almighty Star Wars is coming back with a new film that same year.
The real reason you won't see Trek 13 in 2015 is because Paramount likely wants a new Trek movie to celebrate the 50th anniversary in 2016.
50 years... Man- I was a 18 when I wend to the 1991 anniversary movie marathon in Toronto. There were only 5 movies then, plus the trailer for TUC... It was a long fun day.

How the hell am I going to do ALL 5000 Trek movies in a row now???

They aren't rebooting until after Episode IX, at which time the plan is to make stand alone movies that are not dependent on long term contracts and commitments.

Will these movies blunt some of Star Trek's newfound momentum? Probably, a little. But one could argue that JJ's style of Trek is in a much, much better position to compete with Star Wars than Insurrection and Nemesis were.

I don't think it's a competition. Successful sci-fi movies create an audience, and receptive studios, for more sci-fi projects. It's a win-win.

Unless they open on the same weekend, few viewers need to "choose" between Star Wars and Star Trek. They can just see both.

I think it can only be a good thing, history shows us that Wars drives Trek. Would Trek exist today if Wars hadn't happened?

Huh? Trek predates Wars, so it goes both ways.

Likely to have a bigger impact on Trek on TV. CBS may wait for Disney to produce a series and its critcial/Neilsen reception before investing on weekly Trek again.
Iger has alrady said he likes Star Wars for TV, and that DisneyXD is the place for it, which means more kid-focused animation a la The Clone Wars. Moonves doesn't need to wait, TCW has been getting strong ratings on the Cartoon Network, but animation aimed at kids is not an obvious fit for CBS, so I don't know what he could do with that info.
Those ratings can't be that strong as it got new episodes shunted to Saturday mornings, losing its Friday night timeslot.
The ratings are strong and stable.

The Season Four finale was the #1 watched telecast of the day versus all of television among boys 9-14, and #1 for its timeslot among boys 6-11.
Considering the target audience, a Sat am timeslot does not mean the same thing as if the target audience were 18-49.

Most star wars fans are kind of depressed as they believe that Disney might turn star wars into some kids bubblegum light hearted action stuff.

You could probably argue that the original trilogy had a broader audience, but anyone over seven has been persona non-grata in the galaxy far, far away for more than ten years now.

If they opened at the same time, that would be one hell of a weekend. Considering I'd probably see both of them at least twice the opening weekend.
