I only watch for Heyman these days. The man is still brilliant with or without a mic in his hand. His facial expressions alone make the show.

Re: General Pro Wrestling News and Discussion Thread Part Deux!

I've been thinking about how the CM Punk/Ryback situation might pan out tonight. As we all know, Punk or Cena has to be WWE Champion, come Royal Rumble, so that means that Ryback will lose the title within the next couple of months - a throwaway title reign. I get the impression WWE doesn't really want to do this, since it would do nothing for Ryback, and would merit a triple threat or other additional-participants match where Ryback loses the title without being involved in the decision.

The Ryback streak, wasn't meant to be a streak to begin with. The idea seemed to be that Ryback, would continue squashing jobbers, until he was over, and then he would lose, followed by going onto bigger and better things. The only reason it became a streak, was because of the obvious Goldberg comparisons, and because the fans were treating it this way. It's not like Brodus Clay or Tensai (who both had undefeated streaks earlier this year) could have followed the same booking.

Now we come to Punk, who could easily recover from a loss to Ryback. The trouble is, if Punk is the "chosen one" to face Rock at RR, then he needs to hold onto the title, as it would factor majorly into the selling point of the match.

So it comes down to a screwy decision, if WWE is not willing to end Ryback's streak (either clean or dirty). It was reported in a few places that Heyman has proposed a stable (a'la the Dangerous Alliance, more of a group of wrestlers managed by him who occasionally team with each other or help each other). The best way to end this match is to reveal the members of the stable, as they run out to assist Punk, followed by a load of faces running out to help Ryback. This leads to a 5v5 stand-off, the HIAC is thrown out, and you have your main event for Survivor Series.

Or the return of the nWo Sorry...I couldn't resist. But yeah interference of some kind is the only way I can think of to end this match. It's possible to get into the Cell as we saw when Del Rio used that clever move last year against Cena to trap him outside.

Interesting article on the status of Ric Flair.

Here's my analysis of last week. Impact was very good if you didn't see it.

Anyone catch Hell in a Cell? Personally, I loved almost all of it. Best PPV of the year.

Well, each to their own. Both tag team matches were crap, but that's nothing new, given WWE's INSISTENCE on booking EVERY tag team match to the same dull, overused and de-innovative formula.

Del Rio vs. Orton was a solid opener, although there seemed to be some sloppyness and forgotten spots at the go-home section. Big Show vs. Sheamus was the match of the night, and the WHC change, was much welcome. The crowd was dead for Justin Gabriel vs. Antonio Cesaro, not a very good sign for either man, although Cesaro is a proven heat magnet. No sign of John Cena surprisingly, well, not on the main show anyway. The main event went as expected, not particularly worthy of a HIAC match, but they did their best.

I do have issue with the finish, since it does nothing except introduce another player (referee/wrestler Brad Maddox) into the fray, to overcomplicate things. Now you have Punk who is feuding with Cena, but also feuding with Ryback, who is pissed because he was screwed out of his streak by Heyman, Punk and Maddox.

^Wonder if Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Bill Goldberg feel like WWE should be paying them royalties...

The Big Show vs. Sheamus was an absoute masterpiece, I was gripped throughout - and that's something I never thought I'd say. Match of the year candidate.

This AJ and Cena "affair" story line is even more moronic than TNA's AJ and Dixie "affair" story line.

Re: General Pro Wrestling News and Discussion Thread Part Deux!

I correctly predicted almost every member of the Survivor Series teams. It really winds me up that WWE continues with this "black and white" booking, it's so 1980's...

What I'm talking about is the fact that heels get along with other heels and faces get along with other faces, regardless of their history. Like last night, Del Rio is applauding Punk, despite the fact Punk humiliated him and then took the WWE Championship from him. The impression given, was that Del Rio jumped at the chance to be on Punk's team.

Then you have Randy Orton, Kane and Kofi Kingston on Foley's team. Kingston and Orton weren't exactly the best of friends, Kane and Orton were feuding only a few months ago. Of course, this stuff isn't new, especially in WWE.

Even if one can get past the fact that mortal enemies are suddenly happy to work together, you then come to the realisation that each member of each team has his feud counterpart on the other. Suspension of disbelief doesn't appear to be that important.

Going with the idea that Heyman is a pretty influential guy and wants Punk to reign supreme, he would surely assemble a super team? With Ryback being on the other team, Heyman builds Punk's team with this in mind, so you get:

CM Punk
Brock Lesnar (the secret final member, not revealed until the PPV, Heyman pulls some strings)
Antonio Cesaro
Jack Swagger (making his return, sporting a new look and style)
Wade Barrett

Maffew from Botchamania decided to put together all the tweets he composed for "Hell in A Cell" in one convenient place to read. He promises to try and do this for every PPV. They're pretty fun.

After catching the CM Punk documentary on youtube, I decided to watch the Pipebomb promo and it struck me that here we are over a year later and we never did find out who was repeatedly cutting off CM Punk's mic.

Of course, the obvious money was on John Laurinaitis.

Re: General Pro Wrestling News and Discussion Thread Part Deux!

Of course not. That was one of many abandoned story lines that we've had to frustratingly endure since the original Punk leaving storyline happened without explanation. They could have done so many different cool things during that time period (a lot of them we pitched in the original thread...my own nWo obsession and fan rants aside) they never did anything remotely interesting after that. Just continue teasing without any explanation. It's almost as if they actually did have something awesome planned, but stuff kept interrupting or them not just able to do it for whatever reason.
