Re: Star Trek Online Discussion Thread (now free to play!)
I've had the chance to run this a few times on Tribble and it seems like an easy way to earn rommie marks. In Azure Nebula Rescue, Tholians have captured several romulan ships and towed them back to their asteroid bases for analysis. Your job is to free these romulan ships by disabling the four tractor beams that prevent the captured ships from escaping. Each tractor beam takes about 5 to 6 seconds to disable, which means a single ship would take 20-25 seconds to disable all four tractor beams. Naturally, each asteroid base is defended by a number of Tholian ships that would attack any ship that attempts to free the captured romulan ships. Each base is given a strength number (1 to 5) and the strength of the Tholian ships that defend these bases varies according to base strength. Having said that, the defending Tholian ships are really just a distraction from your main task, which is freeing Romulan ships. In this respect, the tactics for Azure Nebula Rescue is very similar to Starbase Blockade. You don't have to destroy the Tholian ships. If one player ship, say a tanking cruiser, can keep the Tholians occupied, the other 4 player ships can zip in and each disable one tractor beam. Once the Romulan ship is freed, the defending Tholian ships will warp away. This process should take no more than 10-20 seconds per asteroid base and the group can then repeat the same process at another asteroid base until the allocated time runs out.

Tier I: Unlocks at 5,000 Reputation Tier II: Unlocks at 10,000 Reputation Tier III: Unlocks at 17,500 Reputation Tier IV: Unlocks at 22,500 Reputation Tier V: Unlocks at 40,000 Reputation Supply Romulan Star Empire 9 Romulan Marks 300 Dilithium 2 Common Duty Officers 2,750 Expertise 20 Large Hypos 20 Major Regenerators 40 hours wait time Rewards 800 Romulan Reputation Notes: Using only this project to upgrade reputation will require a longer period of time but consume fewer resources. Support Colonization Efforts of Romulan Star Empire 17 Romulan Marks 900 Dilithium 5,500 Expertise 50 Provisions 40 Water Purification Systems 10 Entertainment Provisions 40 hours wait time Rewards 2,000 Romulan Reputation Notes: Using only this project to upgrade reputation will require a shorter period of time but consume more resources. Omega Fleet projects have identical costs and rewards. Devs have said Elite STF will reward 60 omega marks. This means only takes one single Elite STF run and a 4-5 day waiting period to unlock tier 1. Assuming project cost doubles with every tier, I estimate that it will require 1,800 marks and a minimum of 3 months to reach tier 5 reputation with one faction. If your character is able to run 2-3 romulan fleet actions every 3 days, you'll have enough Romulan Marks to reach tier 5 in 3 months. If your character is able to run 1 Elite STF every 3 days, you'll have enough Omega Marks to reach tier 5 in 3 months. It should be easy to hit the above targets if you play STO on a regular basis. So for myself, I'm going to exchange all my EDCs and Borg Salvage for dilithium rather than wait for them to be converted into Marks as I know I will not have any issues hitting the above targets.

Re: Star Trek Online Discussion Thread (now free to play!)
Also, I just read the new dev blog and...I like it. I'm probably in the extreme minority but I enjoy it when things deviate from the shows. It opens up lots of story telling possibilities. Also I don't get the outrage on the forums about how "Romulans would never do this!" or "Romulans would never do that!" Umm, both Romulus and Remus were obliterated and the Empire has suffered 30 years of war and strife. If a natural disaster completely destroyed the DC-Boston megalopolis, would the United States survive? Probably. Would America be anything like it was before? I highly doubt it. It sucks if you've always wanted to live the life of a TNG Romulan, but that's JJ's fault and not Cryptic's. |

So presumably, everyone at that point has played all the mission content. Reality says you are a VA before even getting near the Reman FE. So it's probably level and content locked to access the stuff. |

After reading about the SWTOR Free-to-play model its kind of hard to be annoyed at Perfect World, they at least let you play the game missions and stuff they just stiff you on the gear which with the difficulty settings you can get by with cheap stuff off the exchange. |

Re: Star Trek Online Discussion Thread (now free to play!)
How the heck do I defeat this piece of s**t?? Every time I try to take her out (during mission Nightingale) I get stuck in her tractorbeam, recieve a shitload of plasma torpedoes and I'm done. I already have shields that help against plasma-based attacks, and when the folley comes I try to shoot at the torpedoes and take those out first. But they come in to fast and to many. I'm getting sick and tired of it. It's enough to make me want to stop playing.

Re: Star Trek Online Discussion Thread (now free to play!)
Stay out of the front arc! Romulan battleships in particular are most vulnerable and harmless from the flank side. Stay away more than 5km.If you are snared anyway you can use Attack Pattern Omega, Polarize Hull to resist the beam. You can force your way out of it with evasive, power to engines and other engine boosting abilities. And you can stun and disable the other ship and outright break the reactor beam with Photonic Shockwaves, subnucleonuc beam, scramble sensors, jam sensors, a tricobalt hit, ... And my favorite point defense system: Tractor Beam repulsors. That will push her out of her own tractor range and has the nice effect to destroy any iincoming plasma heavys because it has 100% accuracy. A single tractor Beam of yourself is useful to prevent yourself getting into this Situation in the first place. Shields against plasma attacks won't help you here. They only work against energy based weapons. Those torpedos deal kinetic damage. So the best shield against it should be a resilient shield with a high cap because it reduces bleedthrough damage and while you are at it, equip an armor console against kinetic damage. Should be a piece of cake now to beat the mission. |

1. Tactical Team, know what it does and when to use it. 2. Emergency Power To Shields, Transfer Shield Strength, Science Team helps restore shields. 3. Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field, Hazard Emitters, Engineering Team helps repair hull. 4. Distance matters, don't let it get close to you.
