There are loads of possible name origins; mythological gods and creatures, military leaders and battlefields, ground-breaking scientists, social activists and campaigners, respectable politicians, places, previous ships, and on and on .

The real possibilities are endless. But then there are all the future famous people between now and Trek time (250-odd years), and of course all the same types of people on alien worlds.

In light of James Cameron's record-breaking exploration of the ocean floor, I think the Cameron would be a really nice name for a shuttle.

Speaking of record-breaking, perhaps the Baumgartner would be an appropriate, if less elegant, name for a shuttle.

The S.S. Montana for an Aerie-Class medium transport / tender, usually dedicated to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers for boneyard recovery assignments, marshalled to a Utopia Planetia-type parking/orbital station that acts as a local farmers' market type trading station. I could see that.

It's strange, you can spend ages trying to think up a suitable name for your starship and get nowhere, yet I plucked USS Majestic out of thin air for my challenge entry this month and I instantly fell in love with the name!

Thanks, I was kinda thinking that too. For some reason in my head it just fits with a Nova-Class surveyor.

As I said it just came to me but it does seem to fit perfectly. Who knows perhaps a short prequel leading up to the Majestic's fateful encounter with the wormhole is in order?
