Because Bob Orci did say, ages ago, that at least one villain in the movie was to be a canonical TOS character. But, of course, that might not be Benedict Cumberbatch's character.

Why assume there has to be a dedicated villain? Some of the best episodes of Trek don't have a villain. TOS's City of the Edge of Forever, TNG's Darmok, Inner Light, DS9's the Vistor.

I highly doubt Abrams would take such an approach given the cliche action heavy style of the last movie, but it's a possibility.

I say Cumberbatch is an Augment, hence the Khan rumors. But he's a Starfleet-bred Augment, a Starfleet that's rapidly losing it's way, slipping (wait for it!) ...Into Darkness. *cue apocalyptic music*

Given the hints to Section 31 in the comics, that might just be what happens!

At the top of the cover, on the left, enlarging the image, I saw a shadow of a ship (I think so), a nascelle and a disc, but it´s not like the Enterprise. Can anyone see this or it´s an illusion?
