You could have stopped right there, and your point would have been made.

That said, while I also had my problems with 2009's story logic, I didn't hate the movie and don't think JJ ruined Star Trek anymore than I thought Rick Berman and Brannon Braga did.

Of course, by this definition my grandparents' basement could pass as an Engine Room.
What's their address? I want to film a fan movie in their basement.

The brewery debate again...my apologies for starting that one running. Look, folks, if you liked the look of the engine room, then good for you. My complaint, voiced in plenty of other threads, is that - to me - it looked like exactly what it was: a brewery. I've worked in a brewery, so I recognized it as such immediately and it slammed me back to the 21st century, destroying my willing suspension of disbelief. They could have used the engine room of the liberty ship Jeremiah P O'Brien for much the same effect, and it would have resulted in the same response from those who know what a steam engineering plant looks like.

I really hope they build a decent set this outing rather than reusing the brewery.
Thing is I don't care what the frak it looks like. I know a lot of people are into their ship pron, with their pulsating nacelles and the constant measuring of size. That's cool. But really the engine room could look like a MacDonalds and I'd be fine about it.

I agree up to a point, but I don't buy your McDonalds analogy, though it would make SF films a lot cheaper to make.

I never saw the infamous concrete in the Kelvin for example (God knows how many times you have to watch it to spot that sort of thing!). But when you see something that you either know what it really is, or just blatantly doesn't belong, it can be jarring. For me it was those stainless steel vats complete with drainage caps and chains!

Well I wouldn't want Ronald in the background but otherwise I'd be cool with fryers.

I'll probably go back to what I was doing from ST7 on -- waiting for it to come out on Netflix.
Wow, for ST7 that must have been a long wait.
Busted!
Yeah Obviously it was VHS/DVD or whatever for those movies. It'll be Netflix for ST2013. But I don't really know if it's really a dig on the Star Trek movies .. I don't think much at all is worth me dropping dime at a theater, driving there, parking, making sure I've peed, etc. Too much hassle and expense unless it's really, really, good like LOTR. ST09 is okay. I've watched it about 20 times, just like 7-10 and I'll prolly watch the new one about that many times -- cause I like Star Trek. On my big screen TV though, where I can somewhat enjoy it.

The whole Delta Vega thing was still dumb

But since we're all Trekkies here, we shouldn't have a problem accepting that silly and borderline implausible explanation stating that "Delta Vega" isn't a planet's name, but rather a designation for a whole bunch of planets.

We Trekkies are all about suspending our disbelief by accepting implausible in-universe explanations, aren't we?

It's Delta Vega Minor, not Delta Vega Major.

I prefer the explanation from the as-yet-unreleased novel To Seek a Newer World...

Although the simplest explanation, that it's simply a resued name (in the same way thousands of towns and cities on earth are endlessly duplicated), is good too.

I don't know what kind of Trekkies you hang out with, but in my social circles we bitch about this sort of thing and accuse it of ruining Trek's purity of spirit. And no, I don't know what that means.

I very much like the explanation behind the spoiler tag.

TOS/TAS had two Arrets: Sargon's planet of origin ("Return to Tommorrow") and Karla Five's homeworld ("The Counter-clock Incident").

TAS had Edos and TNG had the Edo.

There are several species of Rigellians/Rigelians and lots of Rigels.

I'm sure there are other similar duplications.

The kind of Trekkies who go to great lengths trying to come up with explanations for all that nonsensical bullshit which keeps reminding them that TNG and VOY aren't documentaries.

Many of them don't recognize the existence of this JJ person's fake "Star Trek", though.
