There's no way a man in his mid seventies could handle it.

And bear in mind that at 75 he'd be 20 years older than Hartnell was when he took the role!

Peter Davison was on three different series while he was the Doctor and Jon Pertwee was in his 50s during his run and didn't miss an ep. as far as I know. I think the main reason the show is harder for them to do now is because they're trying to cram 14 eps. in 13 eps. schedule.

Yes but Davison was 29! Also there was only crossover at the begining of his run wasn't there? And, correct me if I'm wrong, weren't they ensemble sitcoms meaning he probably had a lot of flexibility?

As for Pertwee, well he was only 50, we're talking about a 75 year old here, admittedly a 75 year old who seems in really good health and damn good shape, but still, someone who's a quarter of a century older than Pertwee.

Yeah and Matt Smith was 26 when he got the part and ys they were sitcoms but the BBC ironically enough didn't like giving him time off to make one sitcom for them. And while Pertwee was younger than Stewart is now he was still older than Eccleston, Tennant or Smith during their runs.

Personally I'm not avocating Stewart for the role, but I would like to see somebody a bit older than Matt Smith. Which is one reason why I suggested Matthew MacFadyen for the part.

Smith has made things for the BBC like Christopher and his Kind, and the Olympic drama he did though.

I'd like to see an older actor in the role as well, although I think it should just be the best man for the job, and in many ways I think Smith plays older than someone like MacFafyen could. It's weird, I always felt Tennant was slightly too young when he first got the part, yet I've never felt that way about Smith?

I do like the idea of MacFayden though, although he wouldn't be my prefered Spooks alumnus for the role...

Plus the format of the show is so condensed (40 to 50 minutes per story, baring 2 parters) that it relies on the Doctor constantly running around. The classic series could take more time, but sometimes to much time and got boring. The actor playing the next Doctor will be anywhere from 25 to 45 years old.

I don't think 45 needs to be the upper limit. There is a much longer middle age for men these days than before, and someone in their 50s can still have plenty of energy and even sex appeal if that is a factor. I'd love to see a 50-something stiff-upper-lip with a twinkle in his eye and a wild side constantly belying his staid outward appearance. Someone like Julian Wadham, Linus Roache or Jeremy Northam

I think that if Sir Patrick Stewart were to be in Nu-Who he'd have to be an ultra villian along the lines of Omega or The Black Guardian.

Yea, to make Patrick Stewart a hero, especially The Doctor in NuWho would be typecasting, Doctor Who is not for playing your normal character, IMHO, it's for "Acting Outside The Box". I absolutely agree his appearance would be best as a "Mustache Twirler" and I'd still like to see Alan Rickman as The Master, personally

I think Patrick Stewart could actually make a really cool Valleyard when the time comes

Simm as the Master? I was able to enjoy the Character he portrayed, but, Simm's Master was not really to my taste of what the Character of The Master should be so I envisioned him as a different Rogue Tomelord, but, then I appreciated Eric Roberts' version of The Master, which many didn't

Oh, also, considering Legendary SciFi Icons, I'd love to see Mira Furlan play a Rebooted Rani (Just watched The Coming of Shadows and Learning Curve in honor of Turhan Bey's Passing)

Rickman as The Master, I just picture Snape and his Romantic parts and Galaxy Quest, and just think he has the range to be an oily dripping sleazebag of a selfish calculating Bastard. Simm, IMHO, played the Master as too much of a Prankster

OOh I like that notion, the woman oozes Time Lady (not literally). I'd prefer her as Romana though.

Rickman is one of thise actors who I could see doing equally well as either the Doctor or the Master.
