I never really worried too much about the physics of the shrinking process since I never saw Shrinking Man as a hard-science piece. It's like wondering where the Hulk gets his extra mass from or how the Invisible Man can see. The story is about the "what if? premise; the technobabble is just hand-waving to justify the central conceit. Or so I always saw it.
Ultimately, from what I understand of biology and physics, if someone were to nitpick the entire concept it quickly falls apart regardless of this point. As you say, the idea was to establish a "what if" scenario and then jump off from that. If Matheson had tried to be "realistic," the story simply wouldn't exist.
Right, which is why I said he should have stuck with "we don't know why or how it's happening". Less explanation, not more.

Oh, cool. Well, tell him he's got a casual fan who's still creeped out by "Shipshape Home" 33 years after first reading it.

Apologies if anyone posted this already. It's from a Time magazine article on Ben Affleck and Argo.

Time wrote:
Christopher Nolan, director of the Dark Knight trilogy, "is the prototype of where Ben would like to end up - making big movies that are commercial and have critical and social relevance. That's where he's heading."
Affleck says he's up for a big superhero movie. "I like the idea of using all the toys and spending that much on visual effects to create a whole world. I just don't like the idea of doing it on top of a script that's not very good."

Which is why Nolan movies are so good.. huge spectacles but the story can hold its own against the visual onslaught.. case in point is Inception. Brilliant movie and some very cool special effects.

I wish more directors/producers would first hammer out a really good story before they start looking for the hottest actors currently and seeing when ILM or WETA can fit their movie into the schedule.

^The Dark Knight story cannot hold up to even the slightest scrutiny. The basic plot of the hero doubting himself sure, the actual story itself, no.

But see, that's why Nolan is brilliant. He makes movies in such a way that they make people think he's brilliant.

Armie Hammer is possibly being considered for Batman again.

Jake Ghylennahll? So he'd play both Batman and Aquaman?

Uhm, ... Would it?! I gather you're referring to Maggie Gyllenhaal being the love interest Rachel Dawes in TDK, but if I remember correctly, there was no sex.

But maybe you're referring to something else and I'm making a fool of myself here. In that case, please ignore this whole comment.

2015 is when we will see "Justice League" apparently.

Till production or at the least casting starts I'm not going to hold my breath.

I think we'll know for sure if this goes forward about 2-3 weeks after Man of Steel opens. The films legs will already be showing, or lack of.

I can see arguments either way that it gets made but if MOS is a monster hit, no doubt JLA is coming 2015.
If MOS is modest or a stinker, box office receipts wise, one could say they have nothing to lose, they have to try JLA or give up altogether. If it's the former then their position is more of one of strength I think.

Ugh, I can see this movie becoming a disaster. It is looking more and more to me like Warners just want to cash in on this Avengers craze instead of taking their time to develop a good movie.

IMO, I'd take it a little more slowly. Do Batman/Superman first. That'd still make a killing at the box office.
