Plain and simple! Slashes are not plain and simple!

My dear R. Star, they're all true.

Re: Did Phlox ever have a nurse in any season?

Well we do see multiple people assisting in a few episodes, so I assume that while we don't have a nurse speaking role, that there were people with multiple training fields, who would assist Phlox.

Based on the visual evidence, no staff present during the majority of scenes where we see one person getting treated, and seeing some form of support staff when a major ship crisis occurs, means no full time nursing staff.

So the only real question is, was the personal there in major emergencies part time field medics, or did some have nurse training (or does Starfleet teach some sort of combined role)

Another point is it really necessary to have a full time Nurse (or Nursing staff) on board a vessel with only 80 in crew?

Where my father worked (he was isolated from society by hundreds of miles) and worked with about 100 men and women, and they had one full time medical staff (they were classified as a physician's assistant). Of course the one difference is that they were only a an hour or two away from Fairbanks or 2 and a half hours away from larger medical staff in Anchorage by plane). SO they didn't need a well versed and trained doctor. On Enterprise you would certainly need a doctor of considerable skill and wide based knowledge.

But would you need a full time nurse, or even a full time medic? I would guess no (and its truly a guess) but I would assume they had cross training with a few crew, who's full time job was something else.

That is very true.

They could have at least pretended to cater to slash like DS9 did.
ENT and VOY both gave as much pretense to Slash as DS9 did for some of the male characters And Reed and Malcolm were certainly part of that, some would also throw Hayes and Reed in there as well for ENT.

Nah, DS9 had Miles actually confessing to Julian that he liked him better than his wife. And a real female to female kiss. Much as I agree that Hayes was a slashy it was not as overt as that and anyone with a slash beef who thinks it is all in our heads would say so and be mostly correct.

Wow R. Star. You'd rather be lubed and massaged by Phlox than a nurse?

How very interesting.
I'd rather be nursed by Cutler than cut by Fred Durst for the worse in a hearse.

uhh..

Let's talk about Cutler. Do you think it would have moved forward into a romance and/or affair in the next season if she was still with us?

Yes

I thought at one point, after mid-first season, they might have steered Hoshi towards more time with Phlox, maybe helping out with menagerie. Then they seemed to forget about it. Duh.

Re: Did Phlox ever have a nurse in any season?

I wanted to know who Hoshi would have hooked up with in the E2 crew. I thought it was odd she didn't want to know.. if it was me I certainly would have.

Cutler and Phlox should have developed some mutual romantic tension. He doesn't want to hurt her since he knows humans have different relationship expectations than denobulans but despite his best intentions or perhaps because of them he develops feelings for her.

There were the odd episode when you saw random blueshirts at work in Sickbay (who weren't Elizabeth Cutler). But in the episode where Phlox is alone on the ship and has an imaginary T'Pol with him (you know just like that epsiode where Seven was alone and imagined a bad-guy alien running around onboard), when they are clear of whatever it was he says they should make a start with reviving his medical staff.

A very science fictiony kind of slash, given that they're the same person.

Well we have Admiral Janeway/Captain Janeway and we have Tom/Will Riker so what the heck.

Every other Trek doctor had a nurse, or some nurse-equivelent. I rather like the idea of one working solo, which is pretty much exactly what we got with Phlox.

Maybe he trained some of his animals to pass him things.

Maybe it's a Denobulan custom for doctors to do the things that our culture assigns to nurses. After all, Denobulans rarely sleep, so Phlox would have more time to get things done by himself.
