Don't they? There is at least one cut scene from Nemesis that had completed fx in the trailer, but had only a green screen in the DVDs deleted scenes section. We don't know how many cut scenes were actually completed, but never officially appeared anywhere.

Absolutely correct. That deleted scene fragment was finished using the budget assigned for the promotion of the film, creating trailers and such.

It's in the bonus features section, but is only few second piece of the entire deleted scene that can be seen in its entirety in the deleted section.

The TWOK workprint I saw had NO finished FX.

Or maybe it was completely finished, but cut at the last second? I think all of the stuff we saw in the Nemesis trailer that never showed up in the movie was cut at the last minute ... I mean, why would they put all those scenes into the trailer when they already knew they would never actually be in the movie? There are probably more finished scenes cut from Nemesis than we know.

As for Generations, I don't know ... I guess it depends on which point in production it had been decided to cut those scenes.

Nearly every genre movie trailer I see has scenes that didn't make the final cut, that's not proof they were last minute cuts.

Anyway, the scene in question is fairly brief, the one with Picard/Data was 3 minutes long almost--no way they completed those FX and then dumped the scene. Budget was way to tight on TNG movies.

Anyway, what's your point, they did showed a completed Nemesis, FX and all in the theater?

I don't know that. It's highly unlikely, but not impossible that some preview version accidentally got out there ... who knows!

My point is that we have no idea how finished or unfinished any of the deleted scenes from Nemesis or any other Trek movie were. Sometimes unfinished scenes are being put into the deleted scenes section just to prevent people from editing them back into the movie on their own. Sometimes deleted scenes are deliberately reduced in quality for that purpose only.

Some of the scences that have been cut from Generations and Nemesis seem very much like last second cuts to me ... but that's of course pure speculation on my part. There are probably people around here who know better.

^^Cant argue with MOST OF that. I'm pretty sure some of the cuts from TWOK and TUC were late cuts, but most did not require FX (No big windows with green screen to fill in!)

A studio rough cut of Generations got accidentally released to a theater----nah.

I wish the rough cut of TWOK has accidentally got released to theaters in 1982--then I wouldn't have had to wait 30 years to finally see it. LOL

For what its worth, the alternate ending on the Generations DVD is sans almost all effects, however there was a version created with completed effects and a temp music track, see here (although the quality is worse than the one presented on the DVD).

We know however that the original version was presented to test audiences (hence the reason it was re-shot), so I suppose it makes sense that the effects were completed for it.

One thing though, they very often have previews with incomplete or no FX completed. Meyer comments on this in one of his commentaries.

He said no matter how hard they tell the audience not to be put off by lack of FX they always freak when they see 'cards' or 'storyboards' or other incomplete FX. LOL


In the rough cut of TWOK it's totally amazing how loooong the blank gaps seem where the FX ended up going.

Am I the only one that remembers some of these "deleted" scenes from Generations? With that being said, can it truly be called a deleted scene or be considered non-canon even though it was in the theatrical release, but not found on current DVD releases?

I don't mean to cause anymore arguments, but I do remember the shower scene that you're talking about. I also remember the torture footage and the one with chekov and scotty the run around the block scene. I don't know bout the Data scene but I do remember the other ones. Youre not alone. Yes, most of us have seen the deleted footage. The OP claimed to have seen all the deleted footage in finished form in the theater. That part is the part nobody is buying.

I've tried to keep somewhat quite about this. Grant...you're an idiot. I thought I put this to rest. I know what I saw whether you buy it or not, and I really don't give a damn if you do or not. Going back to the root of what I was talking about, and that's do deleted scenes count as canon given that there are different versions. As I stated earlier that you obviously didn't...or can't read is that I MAY be mistaken for the Data scene. The rest, I'm sure about and this is just for you.....I would bet your life on it son.
