Re: AVENGERS: Grade, Reviews, Discuss, DVD & Sequel **SPOILERS**

The Phase One Box set DVD/BR is still coming....it's just going to be Spring 2013 and now with slightly redesigned case.

...the Phase One set will indeed see a release, albeit next spring instead of later this month. SuperHeroHype has confirmed that case design will change, although we're not yet certain exactly how significantly. Check back for details as they become available.
This is still favorable as they can now tie the release into the launch of Phase Two with Iron Man 3 likely weeks away with it's May release. Assuming the set is released in April. Plus it increases the likelhood of more double dipping. If you were just going to get the set in September you probably weren't going to get the single disc or 2-disc set even. Now though, with a 6 month or so gap the cash-in on double dipping is back in play. Even though you could argue they weren't going for that by timing the set release with the single disc release. It's a win/win for them.

Good news for those that preordered the Phase one Bluray set on Amazon and still haven't cancelled.

You will be getting a free copy of Avengers on Bluray/DVD.

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

We're writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.

To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel's The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012.

It's about display.

Pretty boxes.

Maybe life would be cheaper if they allowed you to buy the pretty boxes separately.

And you can just fill them up with your old Paula Abdul cds so that it seems to your dinner guests like you have a robust collection that collectively might cost the same as a band new sports utility vehicle.

I saw that Amazon news this morning, wish I had pre-ordered it now.

Did anyone here pre-order the set?

Has the movie been edited for video release?

It seems to have been in the UK, at the very least.

If so, then I say "Lame!" Even if the reason is in to some way...

Next thing you know, the SHIELD agents guns will be replaced with walkie-talkies.

Yeah, I don't think I like that. Even if it is for the reason you mention in your spoiler, it still seems kinda weird.

It can't be that. All the reviews say the US version was unedited.

Also I heard that Disney is in trouble with the ratings people from those countries, since they released a different version that wasn't in theaters by cutting that part out.

So, Agent Coulson was actually put out of commission with a walkie-talkie? Makes sense.

Disney under fire after UK 'Avengers Assemble' DVD, Blu-ray release

Disney has come under fire for significantly cutting bonus features on the UK home media release of Avengers Assemble.

It was revealed last month that director Joss Whedon's commentary had been cut from the UK release due to time constraints and fans have now taken to online retailer Amazon to voice their frustration.

"However, here we see despite the significantly higher premium over DVD, this Blu-Ray offers zero extras, not because they're not available or won't fit on the disc, but because Disney know many individuals will have been waiting for this disc and will pre-order, unaware of the omissions, and of course Disney will then release a 'Special Edition' including everything they should include now."
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has also confirmed that it is investigating claims that the UK home media release is an edited version of the film.

Responding to a user concern on Twitter, the BBFC wrote: "Thanks, we're investigating. If a work has been altered after classification it would be in breach of the VRA"

Reports indicate that the UK release has edited the scene where Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is stabbed with a spear; completely omitting the spear penetrating his body.

Here are pictures for those wondering what has been censored out of the UK Blu-Ray/DVD release.

It was in the movie while it was being shown in theaters, but for some reason it is gone now.

I've just found out the UK release has been gimped and I'm pretty annoyed by this.

No extras and no Joss Whedon commentary has fucked me right off, as has the editing of the film.

This is what I get for pre-ordering.

My UK copy will be getting returned the day it hits my doorstep and i'll be getting the much better looking US release.

Well I got the Blu-ray today, I got it from Sainsbury's which has the exclusive bonus disc 90 min docu on it. Also cheaper than Tesco & Asda prices too

Frankly I can live without commentaries, I mostly never listen to them anyway. Someone like Joss would be an exception, but even he is better with other people in the room to bounce off of.
As for the spear, yeah that's a bit weird, but whatever.

Maybe I just made this up too, but didn't I read somewhere that it's a German thing? I know they're big on censorship and ratings there, so I bet Disney had to cut it out for them, and then as Region 2's Europe they just cut it out for everyone else too.
