Weird to have a Wednesday game, but since I don't care for either team, didn't care who won. Curious about Dallas WR Kevin Ogletree, though. He had a helluva game and I never even thought about him while drafting my fantasy teams. Wonder if he's the real deal or his big night was just a fluke.
Yeah, that caught me by surprise.

Anyway, I was rooting for a tie in the game, so I was disappointed with the result.

Dear Dallas,

Thanks for beating the Giants last night. Your timing sucks. If you beat them the last game of last year instead of the first game of this year, they wouldn't have made the playoffs and dickpunch the Pats in the final minute...again.

Sincerely,
Several million pissed off Pats fans

It's not going to be a fluke year for Ogletree. He is essentially filling in the spot occupied by Laurant Robinson last year. Robinson led Dallas receivers in TD's last year but not because he was this huge talent. Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten suck up a lot of the coverage so Ogletree is going to find himself wide open just like Robinson. He is going to get a lot of looks this year. He might be worth adding to your fantasy league.

Re: NFL 2012 - Drive to Glory

Huge Cowboys fan, but I predicted the Giants to roll last night. I knew the Cowboys upgraded at the corners but I wasn't expecting to get much of a contribution from Morris Claiborne until about half way through the season. He had a tough assignment in his first pro game with the responsibility of guarding Victor Cruz. I was shocked at how much of a difference adding Claiborne and Brandon Carr had on the Cowboys D last night. They did a great job and Eli was forced to hold the ball a little bit longer allowing Demarcus Ware to do what he does best.

The offensive line still gives me something to be concerned about but all in all they did ok protecting Romo against arguably the best pass rushing defense in the NFL. I'm hopeful for the season but the Giants do this every year and then start winning late in the season.

Matt Light, you look awful in a suit, get back to Foxborough now, please. Solder, Vollmer, Mankins, Connolly, and Wendell scares me. I miss you Koppen.

Why, because he moved a team? That's the dumbest reason for hating an owner or franchise I've ever heard. Unless you are a season ticket holder directly affected by it, just watch them wherever they end up going. It's a combination of a business opportunity and generally an unfavorable stadium that the local politicians don't want to use public money to replace.

They were a laughing stock in Cleveland, now they are a perennial contender, and the new zombie Browns still suck ass.

It's not like it's 1950 and you need newspaper box scores to catch up on out of town games. I'm a Patriots fan who moved to a suburb of NY this year, I'll just go find the local Pats watering hole on Sundays when they aren't on here.

As far as team moves went, Cleveland going to Baltimore was the least painful one. Cleveland kept the history and eventually got their team back. Yes, the Ravens have been far more successful than the new Browns, but the old Browns weren't at all successful when they left.

Re: NFL 2012 - Drive to Glory

You seem to be failing to grasp the depths of Modell's shit-kickery. Back when the NFL was gearing up for expansion and Baltimore, led by Bob Tisch, was leading the pack, Modell talked him out of the bid. And then when Al Lerner, who was one of Modell's closest friends, stepped up for the Baltimore bid, Modell then cast his vote for Jacksonville to get the expansion franchise. Why did he fuck his friend over? Because he was already negotiating behind closed doors to move to Baltimore, and was ginning up bullshit in Cleveland (like claiming there was no running water on the upper deck of Cleveland Municipal Stadium, which was bullshit -- he was pissing and moaning over the Jacobs Field project because he wasn't going to own the new stadium).

The stadium thing is really a microcosm of douchebaggery. In addition to the sports franchises, he also owned Stadium Corporation. Stadium Corporation fucked around with the Indians while they were sharing the stadium -- Stadium would book concerts and not fix the wrecked field, would refuse to upgrade facilities, forced the Indians to appeal to the city for a tax hike for a new stadium ... guh.

And there was the little thing about him insisting that the Ravens would inherit the Browns' history, which the NFL initially agreed to until the rest of the world told them to fuck off. The book False Start, by Terry Pluto, does a great job of illustrating just how Modell and the NFL set up the new Browns to fail after the very public black eye they got from the Baltimore debacle.

He wasn't George Preston Marshall, who was pure, concentrated evil, but he was a piece of shit.

I don't there are any good moves of sports teams, but it still seems to have worked out better than most.

Seattle --> OKC seems to have worked in the NBA. They're a top team with a crazy fan base.

That was still a move done under incredibly shady circumstances, considering that David Stern did everything in his power to ensure that the Sonics left Seattle, because he needed to scare the shit out of other NBA cities to make sure they ponied up for new arenas whenever his highness decrees that their 10-year-old ones are no longer up to snuff. Stern's almost as bad as Bud Selig when it comes to holding cities hostage for arenas, even though the "stadium as economic generator" concept has been thoroughly debunked by now.

Yeah. See how people from Seattle think about the move to OKC.

I'm not so high on Modell myself. Being from Houston, I'm also a victim of my NFL team being moved out of town. That hurts when you've been following the team for a long time.

Funny thing though, I don't hate the Titans any more than I do the other divisional teams, it's in the past. But Bud Adams can kiss my damn ass.

Re: NFL 2012 - Drive to Glory

Good morning, Monsters of the Midway.

In a few short hours, you will once again take to the gridiron and defend your home, your fortress, Soldier Field. And defend her you shall.

Colonel Cutler, you now have the finest corps of officers and enlisted men surrounding you that you have seen during your time in this theater. No longer do you have to do it all on your own. Place your trust in Majors Marshall, Forte and Bush. Together you can, and you will, do amazing things. Watching your battle plans unfold shall be a thing of beauty. Pay no heed to the degenerates guarding your front line, as we had to draft some town drunks in a pinch. Allow your own magic to flourish.

Colonel Urlacher ... my old war horse. Though you have endured many a campaign and you have the scars to show it, I have faith in you that you will continue to show the leadership, the strength and the resolve which you have so admirably displayed for the past many years. Continue to tutor young Private McClellin and Captain Roach, and provide the disruptions which will allow Major Peppers to rush forth like Hell itself unleashed.

General Smith ... just go get fucked and play in the corner with your challenge flag or something.

These ... Colts have a new field marshal, by the name of Luck. It is fitting that his first taste of the battlefield is in combat with your corps. Do not be shaken by his reputation, or his so-called hype. He is untested, he is young. He is fresh meat, and you are Bears. Do what Bears do.

And take the field knowing that when all is said and done, when the wounds are licked and the knees are taped, you will have accomplished one thing: You will have made the Colts your bitch.

To your posts, gentlemen.
