A poster over at Blu-ray.com requested this alternate version. It was one of a few images I tried the episode list with originally, but I never could get it to look quite right -- had to move the disc three list down out of the way of the Enterprise.

It might be blasphemy to those who are anti-CG, but I seriously wish the Naked Now had replaced that old 80's FX with CG. The age of those distant-galaxy-FX was very glaring to me, especially in the theater.

^I don't think it is blasphemy to want to improve TNG with updated CGI graphics. TOS looks awesome with the new updates I vote for more CGI enhancements

The TOS CGI was a mess of inconsistency.



The project is intended to restore and preserve the show as it was, not re-imagine it like TOS.

If they start doing to TNG bluray what they did to TOS, I will stop buying.


...and before anyone says it...I am NOT anti-CGI. I simply don't believe in re-envisioning everything to make it look uberkewl, just because we can. The effects are fine and they suit the show. The cases where they need to replace the effects are also fine, because that's just the way it is but if they don't have to don't do it.

Irrelevant, since TNG wasn't designed to be watched on a theater screen.

Here's my first attempt (and best guess) at what the S2 insert might look like, based on the new details that have emerged today:

^ That's a good guess. But isn't it reasonable that the extended versions of "Measure of a Man" will be located on the same disc as the regular version? Also, hasn't it been confirmed by TrekMovie.com, that "Don Berman" is actually Rob Bowman?

This. More Tribbles, More Trouble and Trials and Tribble-ations we're on the same disc as The Trouble with Tribbles on the TOS season two set.

Yeah I agree it's possible -- even more likely perhaps -- I was just wondering about what that would do to the bitrates of the episodes on disc two. With TOS-R, they had a disc entirely devoted to Tribble episodes and special features.

I suppose if the three "The Measure of a Man" episodes are all seamlessly branched together it would only add about 15 minutes of HD footage and maybe another 5 minutes of SD. But if one or both of the added cuts have significantly different editing throughout, then branching may not be feasible.

Also, I posted the image before TrekMovie clarified that "Don Berman" was, in fact, Rob Bowman. Rest assured, all the information will be correct before I post the final full-res image. I will wait until I have a good look at the inside of the S2 cover art.

I like the way TNG has been remastered. it is more or less the way the show was meant to look. Seeing how much of the picture quality was lost when the film was transferred to videotape I don't think I could go back to the SD DVDs, the picture quality of course just does not hold up on the flat screen TVs and after seeing the proper colours, the salmon hued SD images just can't hold a candle. The planets are very faithful to the originals, in fact they are the originals but with just more detail.

I usually hold onto the DVDs if the version is different a la Blade Runner Theatrical Cut and Blade Runner Final Cut/Direcotr's Cut and Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Edition and Theatrical Cut. Also a box set if signed.

Can I ask if those who have TNG on blu ray, wil you be going back to the DVDs or seliing them or giving to your trek friends who have not been able to afford the sets?
