Re: Envisioning the world of 2100
I still think the Singularity is going to happen, if - and it is a crucial if - we can overcome the energy problems, which we are capable of doing of the will is there. One reason I think the Singularity is coming is things like the following article, which is much closer in time frame. Some of the comments at the end are interesting too. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/mobile/te...f-ffffffffffff

Plus, it's always fun listening to the hungover phone calls the next day: "I was out last night, and, uh, I think I left my credit card at your bar." "Hold on, drunky, let me check for you."

Energia revival? http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...?topic=12705.0 www.interfax.com/newsinf.asp?pg=3&id=355341 www.nasawatch.com/archives/2012/08/energia-20---ru.html www.russianspaceweb.com/energia.html http://www.buran-energia.com/blog/lang-pref/en/ http://english.ruvr.ru/2012_08_27/Ru...e-not-a-dream/ http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...?topic=12705.0 CHINA's HLLV concept: From Craig Covault's home site http://www.americaspace.org/?p=22881 http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...8344#msg808344 http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...8958#msg928958 SPECS http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...2781#msg812781 More http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/ind...2190#msg922190 Some quotes from nasaspaceflight.com "I don't see this as an Apollo architecture. The vehicle is planned to be significantly more powerful then Saturn V, the only reason you need something like that is if you're planning on building a base there." From Phillip Clark, a great space researcher: "For those of us who have followed the Chinese programme since the launch of Dongfanghong in April 1970, the current pace of the programme is almost supersonic! :-) China's programme has always progressed slowly, but this does not mean that they are not serious with their plans for programmes like piloted lunar missions and perhaps-serious plans for piloted missions beyond the Earth-Moon system." "The Chinese always do what they promise in space, just not in the timescales that many people outside China are used to. Remember that we "oldies" grew up during the race to the Moon during the 1960s and the Chinese do not see themselves racing anyone anywhere at present." SLS has 8 meter core. CZ-9 has a 9 meter core. Saturn V could put 118 t into LEO. CZ-9 can put 130 t into LEO. Last but not least http://www.chinesedefence.com/forums...n-landing.html from nasaspaceflight--"According to chinesedefense.com, the new launch structure currently under construction in Hainan will service rockets with LEO payloads in the 25 to 200 (!) ton range." Our efforts: http://www.space-travel.com/reports/...rkout_999.html I see geoengineering by 2100. Reasons for it: http://cosmoquest.org/forum/showthre...80#post2059780 |

Once and for all, out with it. Do you actually believe that HLVs are appropriate for all possible space missions, or are you just looking for excuses to spam?
