They're goin' to make a third Hangover, ya know...but the cast & director have all said it will be the last one.
I caught that news. Apparently even Heather Graham is coming back. I think she and Stu's ex were about the only cast from the first film not somehow worked into Hangover 2. Unless the baby counts?

100. Jaws (A)

I've never watched this before, largely because sharks are a particular phobia of mine, so it never made it high on my priorities list despite all the praise it gets. It turns out that the actual mechanical shark is so fake looking that it wasn't that big an issue (apart from the bits where they use an actual shark). People tend to talk about the film's influence on blockbusters, but the opening one imagines also helped generate the modern horror formula. And thankfully, in the end, the member of the trio most deserving of death due to stupidity is the one who bites it.

Picked up the Into the Blue sequel for cheap at Big Lots, just 'cause Smallville's Kara is in it...but damn, the movie sucked all kinds of ass. I remember when I went to see the first one at a free screenin', I was one of about a dozen or so folks who even showed up for it, so I totally understand why this was direct to DVD.

Went to see TTW before work yesterday, one of only three folks in the theater after it was sellin' out over the weekend. I didn't care for it too much.

Stopped off at Blockbuster after work & picked up Resident Evil: Afterlife on DVD, since the fifth one is comin' out soon, and I missed this one when it was in theaters. Watchin' it now, just 'cause I got nothin' better to do...

- edit, to add -

Went to see ParaNorman 3D this mornin' before work. I thought it was pretty good, with quite a few good jokes, scares & such, but it made a couple of kids in the theater cry, which was annoyin'.

If I get cut from work early like I did last night, I may go to see Sparkle...

- edit, again, to add -

Wound up in downtown at the Ritz for Weird Wednesday tonight to see Pets, a 1974 sexploitation movie based off an off-Broadway play. A young woman runs away from her family and tries to survive on her own, but instead winds up helpin' a carjacker, rapin' the car's owner, becomin' the nude model for a lesbian artist, and finally the sex slave of an art gallery owner before tryin' to reclaim her independence by pickin' up a hitchhiker on her way out of Los Angeles...

Lars, the host for Weird Wednesday, said the print was in such bad condition, tonight was the last night it could be run...so, there's that, at least.

126. Hopscotch (B)

Hopscotch: Walter Matthau stars in this pleasant little cold war-era spy comedy. Matthau plays an aging field man who gets put on a desk by an idiotic station chief (Ned Beatty), and decides to get even by personally humiliating his boss with a memoir sent to all the major spy agencies (and, eventually, a publisher) one chapter at a time. There are a couple of holes in the plot that come late in the game (In one, Matthau is detained by the police; his method of escape is clever, but after he steals a police car to get away the police are never seen again.) but it's never enough to grind the proceedings to a halt, which are kept in motion by a light and breezy tone. The best scene occurs about mid-way through, when Matthau tricks his pursuers into shooting up a cottage owned by Beatty's wife.

104. Prometheus

The film is great to look at (set design, landscapes, visual effects,...), but there is too much set-up and too little pay-off. I think what hurt it the most, is that they wanted to do a sequel (or two) and therefore left a lot of stuff for the next film. It's really a shame, because with only a few changes this could have been a great film and so it's just ok.

I'm not even a passive follower of MLB but I like sports movies, even ones like in this case where it's more about the back office than drama on the field. Even though they built some of that in here due to circumstances that came about.
I find Brad Pitt to be a very above average actor and while I don't seek out his work I've seen him in enough to know he has range and imo he brought his 'A' game to this film. I would however classify myself as not a fan of Jonah Hill. That said, this may be the first time I found myself not being distracted while he was delivering his lines. Perhaps comedy just isn't really his calling for this profession?
Since the film is relatively new(2011) I'll spoiler my comment for the films ending.

Still, despite that I found the film to be quite enjoyable.

I'm sure that's where the studio wished the story went, but it would be an awfully big detail to change to a movie that's ostensibly based on truth.

Went to a midday showin' of Hit & Run today.

Not too terrible a movie, but wish I had gotten to see it for free, but Drafthouse isn't showin' it.

Also, was it really necessary to spoil two of the cameos in the trailer? Stupid trailer...

101. Ikiru (A-)

The first of Kurosawa's non-samurai-related films I've seen; I was mooting watching this as my one-hundredth of the year, but it didn't work out that way. Makes for an interesting comparison with Wild Strawberries, another foreign auteur piece from the 1950s about a man reflecting on how little his life has amounted to. Has a lot of very affecting parts; one can see why it's still remembered. All the same, it drags in places.

102. Beasts of the Southern Wild (B+)

This and Moonrise Kingdom have been the big buzz-attractors so far this year. Debuting director Benh Zeitlin (who also co-writes and composes for the film) has been compared to Terrence Malick pretty widely, and it is indeed the obvious influence (just like with Malick's The New World, it's got a young female lead with an unpronouncable first name); it shares the strengths and drawbacks of his work, too. I'm not really clear what the (real/metaphorical?) aurochs are meant to represent, or really what the point of all this was. It's worth seeing because it's quite unique, but there's also a sense that the film is very aware of how unconventional it is, and is perhaps coasting a bit on that. This was apparently based on a play (the original author co-writes the screenplay), which I'd be interested to see, because so much of what makes this film is rooted in its visual style, which obviously wouldn't be part of the stage version. Good performances from the cast of largely local people hired as actors.

Slow night at work, and I got cut in time for the last show of the night of the new JGL movie. Pretty bad, though, that there were plenty of seats for a 10:30 show on a Fiday night, and its a new movie!

Anyway...

The trailer made it look silly, and it really is, but in an entertainin' way.

Also, there's an added bonus of a cellphone video/behind the scenes look midway through the credits, for folks who stick around a bit.

26)Premium Rush (2012) - B-

Can there be too much action in an action film? I ask because that's how I felt walking out of this one. Most of the movie was pretty much people on bikes chasing Joseph Gordon Levitt on a Bike (Other than Shannon) and the story itself was pretty thin. Michael Shannon (Who I was introduced to in Take Shelter and I think could play an awesome psychotic guy) was great and so was Gordon-Levitt. There were long scenes of this bike chasing and sometimes I took me out of the movie, because they seemed too long. Still, the action was pretty good and it's your typical summer action film.

27) The Bourne Legacy (2012) - C

This movie had the elements of a Bourne Film, but didn't feel like a Bourne film. It was really missing Damon's charm, and the whole mystery of who or what the main character was was gone. It also felt really long. Despite that though, I still enjoyed it and there were some good action scenes but while I thought a movie like Men In Black, which people stated as not necessary, was a worthy sequel this summer, I have to wonder if the Bourne Legacy was necessary. I'm not sure it was.

28) Haywire (2012) - B

I saw three movies today, and the one I saw at home was the best of the three. Haywire was the MMA-type fight film from Steven Soderbergh and it wasn't your typical action film. I was actually surprised on how low key it was. I expected a big non-stop action film but this was anything but. The story, like Premium Rush, is thin, but I don't think you watch a movie like this because of the story. It's all about the sexiest woman in MMA, Gina Carano and her film debut. You can clearly see she isn't an actress but man does she kick serious ass. Her fight scenes with Tatum, Fassbender, and McGregor were excellent. I would see it her an Expendables type female movie. I would watch it if that happened.

105. Another Earth

I was expecting more of a science fiction film, but this is basically a character drama that works very well thanks to the two principal actors. The second Earth is mostly in the background, which makes the few times where it's affecting the main story all the more powerful.
And I think a stage version of this story might be quite interesting to watch.
