Of course he has -- this is potentially his walk year (after the way the Wilpons treated Reyes, who never wanted to leave, by not even offering him a contract last winter, I have no problem believing that they won't exercise the team option on Wright for '13), he's motivated to do everything he can to get a monster deal and get the fuck out of New York.

He had to reinvent his game to thrive in the auxiliary LaGuardia hanger known as Shiti Field. Became more of a doubles hitter, even with the closer fences.

He deserves a better franchise than this one, which despite needing a 3B, rules out Boston at this point.

Regarding Reyes, notice how his first season outside of Flushing, he is actually healthy for once?

For the NL, you can get rid of Wright and Braun. They don't tend to give it out to losing, non-playoff teams.
I'm pretty sure Barry Bonds won MVP with a last place Giants team before. If anything, MLB seems the most likely to give MVP to a player on a bad team.

Closest Bonds came to a last-place MVP season was 1993, when the Pirates finished in fifth (out of seven). He still hit like a fucking moon monster that year -- his OPS+ was 206 and he had 365 total bases in 159 games ... the guy averaged 2.2 bases per game.

Wright to the Cubs. Get in.

I think I'm going to go watch the Twins tomorrow night. I might get to go see the Mariners over the weekend too depending on how much money I have left

You're right. I was thinking of 2004 where they finished second, but missed the playoffs.

Perhaps I shouldn't be a shocked by this but I am and dammit it hurts like hell.

MLB

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Cabrera is effective immediately.

Felix Hernandez has just pitched MLB's 23rd perfect game. I didn't see the whole game, but his last 4 strikeouts were filthy good.

It's been an interesting day in Baseball today, hasn't it?

All my Yankee friends came alive on twitter about how he has to become a Yankee now. This was the reason I was even aware it was going on, Yankees fans desperate need for everyone else's talent.

Nah, lately it's been Seattle.

Raul, A-Rod, Garcia, Pineda etc etc

That and the fact the Yankees are about the only team that can afford everyone else's talent

Man, does the MLB need a salary cap.

If you are a Giants fan then let me preface what I am about to say with an "I'm sorry."

As a Braves fan I find this hilarious, especially after the way he acted in that last series in Atlanta. When the Braves had him he came in overweight, out of shape and generally lazy. Not really a surprise he would take a shortcut to make himself better instead of trying to do the real work required.

Yeah, his entire career he was an ok, but not great player. The fact that he rose to be so good is what was surprising. That he used steroids is honestly the best explanation and the punishment is completely deserving since he would have left some team on the hook for millions of dollars that he only would have gotten because he used steroids.
