What do want to see from a new series

I don't know. One could argue that it's just a cool piece of technology, like the transporters or the shuttlecraft. Why does it need to be linked to a character?

The holodeck lets us into the private lives of characters, seeing what other worlds and lives they want to be a part of. The holodeck itself doesn't need to be linked to a character, but have it available to them to use every so often on their down time.

Trek has done a holographic character, so they don't need to go near that again, same with an android, former drone, etc. There's no point in rehashing something that has already been exhausted.

The thing that gets me is you always see holodecks being used to play future tennis, or create a lakeside paradise or some other scenic thing. In the real world, where there are holodecks and testosterone, all holodecks would be used for is... well let's just say I don't want to be the maintenance guy who's job it is to clean the holodeck floor LMAO
I mean for real, that's all a holodeck would ever get used for.

I don't know. By that reasoning, why aren't TVs and DVD's only used for porn?

I'm not saying holodecks wouldn't be used for adult fun, but maybe sometimes people are in the mood of a murder mystery or (gasp!) even a space opera adventure instead?

I mean, why are any of us watching STAR TREK instead of porn 24/7? Or even going on the internet to debate the future of Trek of all things?

That kind of stuff was established early on in DS9. The Ferengi peddled holosuites across the quadrant solely for that purpose. Federation Ambassador Taxco scoffed at the idea of using the holosuites in Quark's bar because she believed them to be loaded with only "disgusting sex programs."

Starfleet probably censors the sex programs on their holodecks. I'm sure the civilian ones are incredibly raunchy.

But you just need to look at games to see how holodecks/suites would evolve. Sex is not a big theme, but violence sure is. Holodecks would be used for combat simulations, both by Starfleet and civilians.

Casual/social media games are also taking off in a big way. They run the gamut from exploration/adventure to work simulations of restaurants, hotels, farms etc, and some appear to simply be an excuse for socializing with friends, where the gameplay is little more than a joke.

We havent seen holosuites used as communication devices, for people to keep in touch with distant friends. That should be a big use on starships - people dont need to haul their families around on starships, they can just meet them in the holosuite for virtual socializing.

Good point. TrekBBS is a game, and in the future, there will be holo programs for doing what we do here. Except our avaters will be a lot more realistic and complex, and the mods will have to break up fistfights.

- More Andorians/Tellarites. For supposed founding members of the Federation, we know very little about them.

- New technologies. Why not a personal holodeck? Or transwarp?

And does the Captain always have to be the main character? Why not have a series that focuses on the 1st officer and how they go from 2nd in command to captain - what a potential for a story arc with that concept.
