Not that I'm demanding you and her be in total agreement on such things. I just find it, shall we say--amusing.
You're clearly trying to grasp at something but there's nothing there and the point you think you're making doesn't exist.

Anyhow, her face isn't socialist enough for me.

Okay, so are all the masculine feminists happy we're voting on an athlete or does she also have to have a Harvard MBA?
Pardon my small ignorance regarding the English language, I do not come from America, but is “masculine feminists” in this sentence to imply something bad about people who expressed concerns before? It felt as if a negative connotation flippantly popped out of the sentence and tried to prick me in the eye, but I can't quite figure where it came from.

In your TV shows I've seen fictional characters use that feminist word in disparaging manner, and I've heard some of your TV and radio hosts use it to vilify victims of prejudice (if I recall correctly, one of them even posts here), but I assumed that it was all about imaginary people who were afraid that their wife might start thinking for herself?

Why should real people from the real world have any issue when someone wants fair treatment for all? Shouldn't all real people want to treat all other people as people, in other words, be feminists? Why should this even be a qualifier?

She could win the fucking Nobel Prize, you guys would still be judging her primarily on how good she looks in a short skirt.
Honestly, you expect us to not to judge her looks in a thread titled "Babe of the week"?

I'm sure she'd like it if people discussed her skill as a goalie rather than commenting on how she'd look good in a Wonder Woman outfit.
No reason we can't do both and more. I thought she looked like she could be Wonder Woman and thought I'd mention that. She also looks like Jennifer Carpenter and has an interesting name reminiscent of something from Star Wars. There's a lot that can be said about her in addition to her career in soccer.

Anyway, moving along, here are some fun facts...

Modeling: She appeared nude while watering a lawn in ESPN The Magazine's 2011 Body Issue, which depicts athletes in tastefully nude poses. Tweeted Solo: "Being naked outside is very liberating."

Dancing: Solo was a contestant on the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2011 with dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The pair was eliminated in the semifinals before actor J.R. Martinez and partner won the competition.

Depression: After being benched during the 2007 World Cup and cut from the team for her subsequent comments, Solo considered quitting, asking herself, "Why am I playing soccer? My passion was stripped. I was alone in my house. I wasn't taking phone calls. I wasn't eating right."

Father: Solo's parents divorced when she was 6 and her father spent time in jail for kidnapping Hope and her brother when they were children. But the two reconnected, and when Solo played for the University of Washington, her father, homeless, attended each game.

Shoulder: Nine months prior to the 2011 World Cup in which the USA took second place, Solo had successful surgery on a nearly career-ending tear of a muscle in her right shoulder.

Dating: Solo once dated Seattle party promoter Adrian Galaviz, but said in May she was single and looking: "I can't be all soccer — go, go, go, go — I need a social life, I need a life outside of soccer. So I very much welcome, you know, new love interests and dating and friends and family."

Position: She was an All-American striker at Richland High School in Washington with 109 goals to her credit, but Solo was converted to goalie by University of Washington head coach Lesle Gallimore. At first, she rejected the switch: "Who do parents put in goal? The fat kid."

Crush: In 2011, as the U.S. team was training in Kansas City, C.J. Sapong of MLS' Sporting Kansas City revealed his crush for Solo with a spoken poem caught on camera. Said Sapong: "If angels really do exist then girl you are the proof. Hope Solo, Hope Solo, can you make my dream come true? There are no beaches in KC, but a hug from you will do."

Tweets her mind: While playing for the Atlanta Beat in 2010, Solo lashed out at Boston Breakers fans following a loss. Said Solo, "I will not stand for an organization who can so blatantly disrespect the athletes that come to play. Perhaps the WPS or Boston themselves can finally take a stance to the profanity, racism and crude remarks that are made by their so called 'fan club.' "

Rise: Solo's popularity surged with her penalty save during the U.S. team's World Cup quarterfinal victory vs. Brazil. The jump in interest even crashed her personal website.

And since when one's intellect, artistic talent or physical ability are not part of one's attractiveness?

I would have an elevated sense of admiration (to say the least) for someone who has won the Nobel prize, and that would add to and supersede my appreciation of their looks, yes. Does beauty make other qualities that make someone attractive disappear or something? It's a thread in which you are discussing a person first and foremost, so yes, any noteworthy talent they have should be a part of it?

Gotta comment on her nude pics though... They're pretty racy. Moreso than anything I've seen from any of our weekly models and actresses.

You didn't mention her skills as a soccer player at all. In fact, most posters haven't. Ignoring that list you copied and pasted from another site, you spent more time discussing her naked pics than her athleticism.

Are you absolutely sure, Yoda? She turns 31 in two days.

I'm not that familiar with her soccer career, so I don't have much to say about it. I'll have to leave those comments to others. I can contribute other things though, and that's what I'm doing.

Here's more...

I saw a news piece yesterday about the fact that a lot of sex goes on at these games and that an estimated 150,000 condoms are being provided to the athletes. I wondered if Hope had anything to say about the issue and found the following...

"There's a lot of sex going on," says Solo, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "With a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you want to build memories, whether it's sexual, partying or on the field. I've seen people having sex right out in the open. On the grass, between buildings, people are getting down and dirty."

"I may have snuck a celebrity back to my room without anybody knowing, and snuck him back out," Solo adds. "But that's my Olympic secret."

I did some research on this, and it would seem that members of the hominini tribe, both from the pan and homo genera, love sex. Fascinating.

I was merely commenting on the irony of TheGodBen's statement that we shouldn't judge a woman by her looks in a thread filled with her pictures. It certainly does not exclude discussing her abilities and talents. I have never heard of Hope Solo before reading this thread so I can only defer comments on her abilities to other people who are more familiar with her achievements in sports and other arenas.

I do not come from America, so probably my knowledge of the language is imperfect, but I was too wondering what does exactly "masculine feminist" mean. A man who supports equality? An independent woman? A butch lesbian? It's really confusing.

It is, if it reveals a contradiction in the philosophy the opponent asserts in the debate (or rather, a lack of adherence). Such contradictions must be at least addressed--and either justified or admitted. Otherwise, said opponent loses credibility.

Indeed. And to be honest, madam, I'll give you credit for consistency, in this instance. You appear to detest the "masculine" ideal of sexual attraction "imposed" upon men, just as you do the "feminine", similarly "imposed" upon women.
