Thumbs way, way up. She's one of the best actresses going today, and she's strikingly gorgeous. She's the kind of actress who can come off as sensual without really trying, and, yes, at least part of that has to do with her accent.

Her talent is the most attractive thing about her to me though. She definitely deserved an Oscar for "La Vie En Rose." She gave a stunning performance as Edith Piaf.

Do you have any opinions on her body of work, or her talent as an actress? I know that she looks like she's older than the age of consent in most jurisdictions so I wasn't expecting you to appreciate her on a physical level, but perhaps you have some intellectual insights to offer?

I was thinking about Tautou the other day... and how its interesting that Marion Cotillard has sort of broken into Hollywood films but Tautou hasn't. Maybe it's Tautou choice, but a part of me wonders if its about accent, whether she can make her accent "clear" enough for American audiences.

Personally I hope it's choice. I think Tautou is a very good actor and I would hate something as silly as accent get in her way here.

I didn't have any trouble understanding her in The da Vinci Code. All the convoluted nonsense dialogue was purely the result of what was in the book.

I'd say her beauty made everything about her a little more sinister, and contributed in a very positive way to the atmosphere of the entire film. Or should I have said negative? It definitely added to her part either way.

I admit beauty is an element that gets more and more overused in fiction these days, making the people on screen appear unrealistic, and is generally a cheap way to sell an emotion to your audience (Avatar, I'm looking at you), but in Mal's case, I think it was certainly worth it, and I see nothing wrong if we acknowledged that. I'm going to pick a Bat'leth fight with anyone who disagrees with me on that.

I'm a little concerned about the socialist face thing though. Does this mean that Nolan is a liberal?
