Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

I'm trying to stay extremely spoiler free. Which is why I barely post in this thread, and the only time I did post was asking about "naked push-ups." I don't want to know anything else, I really want to see this film, and think it's going to be the highlight of the summer movie season.

I am pretty pumped by this film.

But I do own that I huddle up in the chair in the fetal position. Movies like this scare the pants off me. I thought I was going to have a heart attack watching Alien.

No food or beverage or the local headlines will read "Local nerd chokes to death in packed theater."

*chuckle* Yeah, I'm the same way. I love a good science fiction movie, so I'm excited for this, but I dislike horror, so I'm not looking forward to that aspect. (I've still never actually watched Alien, but I've seen the rest of the movies.) I find it helps me to know the spoilers for the worst of it before going in, though.

Although Prometheus will be released in 3D, Stoeckinger says that sound editorial and mixing team “never saw the film in 3D until about 80 percent of the way through the final mix. We could reasonably guess what sound imaging was going to be in the forefront — and Doug Hemphill mixed it that way. As various visual effects came towards completion, we were able to pick out key elements to pull even further back into the room to be complimentary with how they would play in 3D — but which are still interesting and effective in the 2D world.

Very cool stuff. I liked reading about the ADR audio they made sound like the production dialogue in the suits.

Prometheus director Ridley Scott has revealed (in this interview with Collider) that a good 20-30 minutes of footage was cut from the film for its theatrical release and that he intends to restore it for a longer DVD and Blu-ray cut - something he's done for many of his Fox films in recent years.

That's a lot of deleted scenes. Why would he restore it for the Blu-ray coming out in less than 6 months later? Is it a cheap marketing ploy or since it was an "R" rated release were there many things the producer's didn't want in the theatrical cut?
I haven't seen it yet and am posting based on speculation and not with spoilers.

I'm sure the audio commentary would say why.

I would love an extended cut. My biggest problem with the movie is that it felt incomplete. The plot moves too fast. One of my very first thoughts in leaving the theater was that it could have stood to be about a half hour longer to flesh out the characters and story.

I know it's not exactly a revered film in the first place. But I felt Legend improved greatly when he did his director's cut of that some years ago.

From what he says in the interview, he seems rather unsure of exactly what he is planning to do. He both confirms & denies that there will be an extended cut. First he pretty categorically denies it, then he briefly mentions a "longer version" which the interviewer presses him on, whereupon he says "maybe".

When Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo interviewed him he definitenty seemed to imply there was stuff that could be put back in

He implied that here as well, he just didn't seem sure about whether he would actually do it or not. He seemed to be more enamoured with the idea of just including the deleted scenes as special features.

Perhaps he just didn't want to admit that there could be a superior cut of the film, because that would imply he is shopping an inferior product. He was very clear that he thought this was the best cut.
