Re: Power Rangers

Channel 5 is to be airing PR Samurai. Hopefully, they'll do a better job than ITV, given it's tendency to skip episodes and their cropping and zooming of shows to widescreen.

http://kidscreen.com/2012/06/12/chan...ngers-samurai/

L.A.-based MarVista Entertainment, the exclusive international distributor for Saban Brands’ Power Rangers franchise, has licensed Power Rangers Samurai and Power Rangers Super Samurai to the UK’s Channel 5. Episodes of both half-hour seasons will premiere later this summer in the channel’s new weekend animation block for boys.

Recently announced new international broadcast partners for Power Rangers Samurai, include Spain’s 24-hour kids channel Boing, Venezuela’s Venevision, Chile’s Mega and Sonic, part of the Nickelodeon platform in India. These international partners join existing International partners, including Nickelodeon (multiple territories), Channel 9 (Australia), TV4 (New Zealand), Canal J and Gulli (France), Mediaset’s Italia 1 and Boing (Italy) and Televisa (Mexico). In total, Power Rangers Samurai reaches more than 150 territories across the globe.

Saban Brands plans to support the Channel 5 UK market launch with character appearances, retail promotions and advertising.

Re: Power Rangers

Just read about Megaforce today. Kind of a dumb name, but it's just a name.

Gokaiger won't be adapted. The claim was it is too hardcore for kids

http://blog.samuraicast.com/rangercr...ers-megaforce/

You may be wondering why Power Rangers Megaforce used Goseiger rather than Gokaiger, which was an ideal season based on the successful execution of the anniversary concepts. I wasn’t able to get a solid answer for this question. They believed that Gokaiger’s pirate theme was more focused for boys (rather than boys and girls) and the concepts of stealing and plundering were too hardcore for a young audience.
Well this sucks for people that wanted this season adapted
Some more interesting info from that article (bolding mine):

Here’s the interesting part: Power Rangers Megaforce will not be like the Sentai version. We’ve heard this before in the past and wonder how is it different now. Power Rangers Megaforce will have an original story that is centered on five high-school teenagers. The concept sounds familar to the first season (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers). The show will still use the traditional Sentai footage, but the story will be completely new and original. Megaforce will actually surprise fans. RoboKnight (placeholder name) will appear fairly early in the season. Power Rangers Megaforce Season 2 (2014) will be “crazy” (direct quote from them).
So that means no angel stuff.

And about season 2 beaing "crazy", I wonder if that means that's when the "Legend War" footage that Toei shot for Saban will be used (assuming they really aren't adapting Gokaiger at all).

ETA: High quality Megaforce poster image, with title logo.

Those are pretty nice costumes.

And I'm glad they're not going to be slavishly adapting the Sentai storyline this time, although I'm not sure what they replace it with will be any good.

Re: Power Rangers

Goseiger would be hard to directly adapt as the Rangers are actually 'angels' in training...and take orders from a being called Master Head.

Frankly I couldn't get my head around the idea of pirate Power Rangers anyway. Pirates are the bad guys!
It would have been creative though. Megaforce looks a little too generic.

Sounds like a fun new twist on Power Rangers.

Re: Power Rangers

It seems to me that Goseiger drew some inspiration from MMPR. I mean, the mentor is an extradimensional disembodied head with a robot assistant, much like Zordon.

Maybe they're just trying to throw people off.

It happened with Disney when they they tried to deny that Jason Frank would come back for Dinothunder.

If Megaforce lasts for two years, it's probably not set in stone whether they'll adapt Gokaiger or not.

"Collectors version"... I assume that means better quality than the original?
ETA: Just looked at some pics. Looks good.

Speaking of toys, Bandai's PR Comic-Con Exclusive is a set of all 6 Samurai rangers in full Super Samurai getup, with the Megazord cockpit stands. Pretty sweet, if you're into Samurai. Linky

Just Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy alone make the panel awesome. Plus you gotta give major props to Walter Jones for doing these conventions despite not having a significant role on the show in 18 years (I feel really old now), or any at all in the past 10.

Re: Power Rangers

We finally have our new cast for next season.

(from left to right)
Yellow is Gia, played by Ciara Hanna
Blue is Noah, played by John Mark Loudermilk
Red is Troy, played by Andrew Gray
Black is Jake, played by Azim Rick
Pink is Emma, played by Christina Masterson

The cast debuted tonight at Power Morphicon 3, and a promo was also shown featuring a mixture of both Goseiger and Gokaiger footage (the latter coming in the form of Megazord footage and footage of the 'Legend War').

Re: Power Rangers

Haven't seen them acting yet, but at least a couple have a decent amount of prior IMDb credits, albeit mostly minor roles, so that's, err, something. (Although the Red Ranger seems to be a model with no prior acting experience onscreen, which isn't encouraging.) At least they're a promising-looking bunch, particularly the ladies, who are both beautiful in very different ways. (And they're the ones with the most acting experience, so hopefully they'll give better performances than this year's Rangers.)

Maybe a bit lacking on the diversity front -- there's no Asian cast member yet -- but we do seem to be getting our second Ranger of Arab ancestry (after Firass Dirani in Mystic Force), which is cool. Always nice to see Arab or other Middle Eastern actors getting to play heroes and counter stereotypes.

Anyway, those are really nice Ranger costumes.

Christina Masterson looks to be part asian or Pacific Islander.
