Cheryl Cole was born Cheryl Tweedy and raised in the northern England city of Newcastle upon Tyne. She was working as a waitress when she auditioned for the talent competition show "Popstars: The Rivals" at age 19. The show ended with a public vote in November 2002 and five of the girls in the competition formed the group Girls Aloud. Cole has been part of the group's twenty consecutive top-ten singles (including four number one singles) in the UK and five platinum albums (two of which went to number one). In 2011, Cole launched her own charitable foundation. The Cheryl Cole Foundation will provide funds for The Trust in the North East, helping disadvantaged young people from her region.

Cheryl Cole's third solo album A Million Lights comes out June 18, 2012, with the lead single "Call My Name" which was released in May. In contrast to her first two solo albums, which mainly drew influences from dance-pop and pop, A Million Lights also incorporates R&B and dance. The album artwork, as well the official track listing for the standard and deluxe versions of the album, were revealed via Cole's Facebook and official website.
