60s Batman show rights issues resolved!

No joke.

For the first time in 40 years, Warner Bros. Consumer Products will be able to use the likeness of the show's stars, including Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith, on everything from apparel to toys, home goods, publishing and promotions.

WBCP will introduce the new "Batman" product opportunities to potential partners and retailers at next week's Licensing Expo, running June 12-14 in Las Vegas. First products will launch in the spring.

Variety

While a DVD release hasn't been specifically mentioned yet, it sure seems likely.

Well, it's not April 1rst so I'm going to take a chance and believe this wonderful, wonderful news. I will be first in line to get those disks be they DVD or Blu-Ray! Finally saner minds have prevailed!

Forget Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith. What about Julie Newmar?

Please, please PLEASE let this mean that a DVD/Blu Ray release is possible. PLEASE. I haven't bought much recently, but this, I would totally get.

"Holy sliced Gordian knots, Batman!"

"A deft historical allusion, old chum!"

Hopefully this does mean a DVD set will be coming, presumably from WB. And hopefully it will be comprehensive. The show's been rerunning on cable for quite a while now, and I got to catch up with most of it that way last year, but they left off a few episodes, specifically the Egghead and Shame 2-parters which both featured rather stereotypical "Indian chief" characters, presumably for fear that that would be offensive. But they were products of their time, and I don't think the Indian stereotypes were any worse than, say, the Middle Eastern stereotypes in the King Tut episodes which they did rerun, or just the general exaggerations of all sorts of character types throughout the show.

Kitt had the sexiest purr, Meriwether was great at writhing and caterwauling, but Newmar was the quintessential Catwoman.

I can resolve this dilemma!

Throw all three upon a catnip laced bed and set the cameras rolling for the "sure to follow" lesbian three way!

Sincerely.

As much as I would love to have the series on DVD, the article only mentions that the likeness/image of the actors can now be used by WB. If they could really release the series, wouldn't the article have mentioned it?

True. That's why I said "Please let this mean" and not "when is the DVD release?"

It's a step in the right direction, that's for sure.
