Can't you just tell Shamasters are getting all the guests for this event. Given the crazy ticket prices, there's no value for money here so far.

All 3 of them are top guys, although I'm not sure Marc does much in the way of appearances anymore. He's only down for one Creation event in the US for the rest of this year. I think he pretty much retired from acting at the end of DS9 and keeps a low profile apart from a small bit of voice work. I met him about 8 or 9 years ago when he was with Casey and Jeff Combs. The three of them together were brilliant.

Would pay good money for a photoshoot with Andy Robinson in full Garak makeup. Best character in the history of Trek.

I hope you're not referring to me. You're bringing a rumour from another forum onto here bear, I already explained myself there. I am simply an ATTENDEE. I go to 3/4 events per year ran by the company. I feel like you're getting personal and victimising me because I'm optimistic that this event will go smoothly.

I hope this won't turn into a personal dispute as the thread has been going well in the last couple of weeks. One quick note: it's best not to say who's on your ignore list especially if those posters are posting in the same thread. It's generally incendiary. Now, Admiral Bear's remark was general enough but I'd rather not see such statements regardless because they obviously lead to negative reactions in others as this thread shows. Cakemonster, I'd advise you to assume that you weren't among those Admiral Bear had in mind.

i'm interested, but i'm waiting and seeing first.

it doesn't help that i'm pretty much a closet trekkie and wouldnt have any friends willing to go, i'd end up saying im on a business trip.

You could always meet up with people there I know some people have mentioned doing car pulls and just meeting others so they have people to potter around with for my first con I met up with people I met on sm forum and now they're very close friends

Axel, you need to understand the general level of derision you get from the majority of people in the UK when you say you like Star Trek. You might as well walk down the street carrying a sandwhich board with "I have Leprosy" written on it.

Considering that Trek is rarely off TV in the UK, I've always felt that there is a genuine affection for Trek over here. It pops up as a regular pop culture reference in the media and Bill Shatner's appearance on one of the BBC's main comedy programmes last week was very warmly received. While everyone knows the perception of Trekkies, the UK has a long record of affection for geeks/nerds/eccentrics, and if they see Trek fans as such, I don't think it's in a derisive sense! Certainly not the 'leprosy' tag AB gives us.

While you get very few if any comments from watching Star Trek on TV (during the 90's, BBC2's 6pm Wed showing of TNG was the channel's highest watched programme every week), the comments start if you say you go to conventions and or like to dress up.

On a semi serious note, while I realise we're not all the same in terms of mentally firing on all thrusters, some of the people I've seen at UK Trek cons have needed sectioning under the mental health act. It's these type of Trek fans, plus the ones that dress up as Klingons, Borg et al, that give the more normal fans a bad rap.

At Creation events in the past, I've been left wondering just how many of the people there realise that Star Trek isn't actually real.

I'm certain Star Trek fans are much less common in Sweden and a lot of the genera people have that "geek" thought of it, but who gives a shit? Laugh at them for their ignorance. If you have friends that are that dumb or narrow-minded, just get new ones or grow some balls. Better yet, tell them to go to the devil.

I think I might've signed up there years ago, but it's not a forum or site I've been to for a very long time. Having seen him at close quarters, Shatner's not someone I care for very much.
