....and Cardiff City make all the papers for the wrong reasons once more:

Fucking tragic if this goes ahead. For any team, frankly.

Re: (UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

Ugh! Although apparently red is supposed to give teams a psychological advantage...funnily enough as I was reading it I though about Leeds changing to white in the 60s, and from mine and Angel's perspective Brian Clough did change Derby's colours from black/white to blue/white in the 70s.

Still I can only imagine how well this will go down. Unfortunately money talks, the same reason so many stadia now have stupid names. Sometimes I wish the bottom would drop out of football, which is crazy really cos so many teams would go to the wall, but it's not as much fun as it used to be.

Teams might go to the wall in the short term, but they'd be back soon enough, in another guise.

Although Sky TV has invested £££ into English football, and you now get football 24/7 on the telly somewhere, the game's sold its soul. Gone are the days of a small provincial side winning the championship. The likes of us, or Forest winning the league ever again under the current setup, are nil.

^^ Nice AV btw mate

Thanks, I just rewatched it for the first time in a couple of years so it seemed appropriate!

You're right, we've seen the likes of AFC Wimbledon and the Man utd team, heck even Ilkeston Town came back from the dead.

You could argue Chelsea used to be a small club, but I guess they are London based rather than provincial. There's Blackburn but even Jack Walker wouldn't be able to buy a title these days.

Unfortunately fans always (initially at least) welcome in these foreign owners with open arms when they think there's gonna be money/success...next thing you know Steve Kean is your manager or you're playing in the King Power Stadium.

Is it true the Venkys didn't actually realise Blackburn could get relegated from the Prem?

I'm not always the greatest fan of GSE but hell we could be doing a lot worse...

HappyDayRiot, I really hope this doesn't come to pass!

At least British clubs aren't selling their names to sponsors yet, as many clubs have done in my league.

Re: (UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

^ I'm amazed MK Dons haven't done it already. Surely only a matter of time before someone goes from Somewhere City FC to King Power FC (the example that keeps on giving, that one)

The real point of contention for most of us is that this has come from (almost) nowhere and no supporters or fans' groups have been consulted in the slightest. I was initially ambivalent about it all - after all, it's not like we'd be franchised or have the name changed, and strip colours have changed before - but.... no. Blue to red? Utter balls - all that stuff about psychology and marketing? Do me a favour. I would just about live with a red strip - just. And the money being talked about is all allocated to very good use, not least finally wiping out our debt with Langstone from the Hamman/Ridsdale days. But changing the bluebird to a dragon? NO. This club doesn't represent Wales and it doesn't represent Malaysia. It represents Cardiff and a good chunk of South East Wales. Taking away the blue and the bluebird makes our century-old nickname redundant, and that's as bad as changing the name ultimately.

If the Malaysians wanted to buy a Welsh club in red with a dragon on the badge they should have bought Wrexham, who have both.

This could all go seriously wrong. Talk of Blackburn/Pompey style collapses is a bit much for me at the moment, but clearly the owner has us over a barrel on this. LEt him have his Dragons or he pulls the plug. There's been so much goodwill to this group since they came in, they would be utter fools to go ahead with any of this without proper fan input. There's bound to be a way to keep everyone happy on this. Bound to be, even if it means playing in red with blue sleeves or something.

Ironically, now I live in London and hadn't renewed my season ticket anyway I'm planning to go to more away games than home next season anyway. And the away kit under all these changes.... would be blue. Go figure.

Can't believe being humiliated by Big Sam would be the least of our problems in the post-season!

Re: (UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

You do have to wonder as well if it's just a hop and a skip to renaming you the Cardiff Dragons or something? And from there to moving the whole damn kit and caboodle somewhere else if the money's right, so Cardiff City become the Bristol Dragons (utterly random example).

Probably that is a trifle scare-mongery but you do have to wonder...

Anyway if there's any kind of petition/campaign let us know cos I for one will sign up to it (for whatever that's worth)

^ thanks I think there was a petition but I had yet to get to it myself.

It would appear the fan outcry has been enough - from across the country too
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footbal...1466-30941926/

So it's financial uncertainty instead by the look of it. Interesting months ahead.

Phew...sort of...

Daft question but what's Cardiff's away kit colours currently? Could they be red?

Re: (UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

This season we had a white kit at the start of the season and for a few games at the end. The rest we had a very unpleasant black one with weird dark yellow patches. I hated it, but preferred it to playing in Swansea colours! This was it: http://tinyurl.com/bnmp9dv The one saving grace is that it isn't fluorescent!

We had this red away kit a few years ago - http://tinyurl.com/crk259r

I suppose having a red away kit means fewer opportunities for overseas audiences to see it. But then I didn't think they even showed the Championship over there anyway!

Yeah, that's fucking hideous. The blue one and the white one on that page are alright, if a little boring maybe.

It's really bad...then again sometimes a terrible kit can actually be kinda cool...

Well I liked this one, and in fact owned this one!!

On the subject of kits, have you seen Man Utd's new home shirt?
