No doubt a factor. The 13 episodes should put it at about 102 or so episodes? Just over the magical century mark of syndication.

It will end on exactly 100 episodes.

I like Fringe but haven't been that happy about this season. I think a lot of that was due to my thinking that they were going to be cancelled and weren't moving toward a satisfying conclusion. Hopefully this end date will focus them, I know it'll make me worry less about the remaining episodes this season.

He must be an incredible salesman, because I watched the whole season and didn't see anything approaching a great storyline. He should have sold Fox the Golden Gate Bridge while he was at it.
I think he did sell them the GGB but delivered that crappy bridge in Vancouver instead.

I'm sure the fact that Fringe is warming the Friday night deathslot was a factor. What is Fox going to put in the deathslot instead?
I'm sure the lower fee and the Friday timeslot has everything to do with the renewal. There's no way this show survives in any other timeslot.

Glad they were able to get enough episodes to produce a good series finale. Let's hope they use them well.

Probably not. I'll still bitch about Wonderfalls and Sliders.

So very happy to hear this news. It's too bad that Alcatraz will most likely be cancelled, but if it means that we get Fringe for one last season I'm not going to complain.

And here's a taste of what season 5 has in store:

Re: Fox renews Fringe!

I don't expect a final 13 episode season to do any better than other mystery-laden shows of its ilk have in recent years--but if Fox wants to renew let them. Fringe has repeatedly shown that it can set up some potentially intriguing ideas but can't provide a satisfying payoff at all like LOST or nBSG.

Great news!

I'm very, very happy (and surprised) that this great show will get a final season to finish up its story. Why not, Fox? They'll have a chance to shop 101 episodes into syndication.

I'm glad it'll be 13 episodes. That'll cut down on the filler and will most likely mean that the final season will run uninterrupted.

I saw that JJ Abrams was interviewed about the news. I'm surprised his reaction wasn't "Fringe? You mean it's still on?" He does tend to abandon TV shows after about a season.

I would have been very happy about it - until this last episode with the future containing the bizarro nazi-wannabe Observers. Some have speculated that this future timeline will continue throughout the season, alternating between current and future episodes. Ugh.

Now I am more cautious. I hope for the best, but I fear it is going downhill.
