Talk about thinking ahead. With most pilots of this development cycle still gearing up for production, ABC has already bought a project that will be in consideration for the next one. Drama Infection was written on spec by Soo Hugh (The River). In the vein of Contagion, Infection chronicles a deadly pandemic ravaging the nation. A desperate President orders a border that divides the nation to halt the spread of the virus. Now, five years later, survivors on both sides fight to bring the country back together.

Oh, for a second I thought that was saying the show was named Drama Infection, but it's actually just saying "A drama named Infection." The former sounded somewhat more interesting. (Reminds me of Monty Python's sketch about the overacting clinic.)

So now Revolution is "a world where physics no longer follows the same rules"? Well that's an improvement over all forms of energy vanishing.

A world where the old rules of physics no longer apply outside the human body. Thankfully everything beneath the skin continues as usual.

Looking for something that might be a little more "Fresh"... and if not that, perhaps a little scope and depth:

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.co...ed-miniseries/

Comic writer Warren Ellis is in league with a fine, fine actor, Idris Elba, to produce an SF/F show for British TV: Ascension

That wouldn't be science fiction, more like a documentary.

"Defiance" on SyFy

Syfy has announced additional casting for its upcoming epic science fiction drama

Defiance is a visionary enterprise in collaboration with Trion Worlds, with the Syfy series and Trion’s multi-platform shooter MMO poised to debut simultaneously. Set in the near future, Defiance introduces a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the survivors of a universal war. Forced to co-habitate, the disparate group struggles to build a new society among the devastation.

Oh no, Defiance is post-apocalyptic? How cliche. I had higher hopes when the earlier releases talked about a "terraformed" Earth (although that would be using the word incorrectly, since that means making a planet more Earthlike). I'd imagined something where alien settlement led to the deliberate transformation of the planet (maybe as a way of restoring the ecosystem we ruined?).

I like Julie Benz' casting as the mayor. I was also going back and forth trying to figure out what they meant by "a future Earth" - earlier descriptions made it sound like it might be another world, terraformed to look like Earth, but no such luck.

Like Christopher, I figured there's one planet you can't "terraform," but hey at least they haven't destroyed all forms of energy.

Earth: Now more Earth-like than ever.

I wonder, would reterraforming be an appropriate term in that case (since life is evidently what terraformed Earth to begin with -- err, albeit as a natural rather than as an artificial process)?

I think we need a more generic, less Earth-centric word for the process of modifying a planet's ecosystem -- especially since, as you point out, Corporal, Earth itself has been transformed from time to time. In my writing, I favor "ecoforming," and a quick Google suggests I'm not the only one who's coined the term.

I can't attest to the veracity of anything here, but this article, a review and discussion of 1493 by Charles C. Mann, is quite interesting.
