Disney's JOHN CARTER

I'd promised my son, Ethan a "guys night out" which we haven't done in ages, so he and I went to see "John Carter".

In a word...AMAZING!

Truly a spectacular film. Action-packed, beautifully envisioned, great story with terrific twists and turns, wonderful characters, romance, adventure...simply, a whole lotta fun!

A bit of violence here and there, (nothing more than what you'd find in a Star Wars film) as should be expected from Edgar Rice Burrows, but all in all...we had a blast!

Admittedly, I'd never read the book myself, figuring it to be musty, old fuddy-duddy sci fi...but knowing who the author was, I supposed it would be ok....boy was I surprised! Now my boy is all fired up to digest EVERYTHING E.R. Burrows....awesome....

Re: Disney's JOHN CARTER

I thought it was quite quite dull. Regurgitated action sequences and tropes from any number of these sorts of films. Lots of set pieces from the Star Wars prequels retooled for this film it seemed to me that it wasn't a terrible film but it was dull and unoriginal.

Perhaps. But plenty of films manage to be based on older material and not seem so derivative.

Don't be an idiot. That's like saying nobody should ever make a movie based on Martin Caidin's Cyborg because they'd have to steal too much material from the Six Million Dollar Man.

I agree with the the OP. I just saw this today and thought it was great. I got the same rush from watching it as i got from reading the original stories, which means that the director knew what he was doing when crafting it.

No, that isn't what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is these ideas can be without coming off the same. How many times is it said the idea is good but the execution is badly done? This is the same exact thing, the ideas came from this book and could have been done well, but they executed it in a very well trodden way.

Re: Disney's JOHN CARTER

We quite enjoyed it over the weekend, everyone in the group I was with. One was an enormous fan of the books, and was worried it would get screwed up. Her only slightly negative comment was "Well, it was Disneyfied, but even the rat couldn't destroy John Carter."

I went to see it last night with my fiance and we both loved it. I was a little worried that she wouldn't get into it, but I think she enjoyed it even more than I did!

Nah it was in this one. I think. Lost track. Though everyone seems to disagree with me. Oh well, each to their own.

It has been brought to my attention I actually am an idiot. Carry on.
