Katharine McPhee: Babe of the week #7 (Feb. 2012)

Katharine McPhee
("Smash," Shark Night 3D, "American Idol" season five runner-up)
Thumbs up= Thumbs down= Thumbs sideways=

A native of Sherman Oaks, California, Katharine McPhee began singing at age two. Her mother, Patricia McPhee, is an established singer in her own right, performing and recording as Peisha McPhee. Though McPhee sang and acted throughout her childhood and high school years, she began taking singing more seriously in college, attending Boston Conservatory as a musical theater major. After three semesters, however, she left for Los Angeles to audition for film and television work. McPhee scored roles in the film Crazy, a musical about Hank Garland, and an MTV series, "You Are Here," which didn't make it to air. She also appeared in productions of Annie Get Your Gun and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir before auditioning for "American Idol" in 2005.
Smash centers on a desire to create a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe -- written by the successful songwriting duo of Tom (Christian Borle) and Julia (Debra Messing). A rivalry soon forms for the lead role between a youthful, inexperienced Midwestern beauty Karen (Katharine McPhee) -- who is trying to find fame in the big city against all odds -- and stage veteran Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty), who's determined to leave the chorus line and finally get her big break. A tenacious producer Eileen (Anjelica Huston) discovers the "Marilyn" project and jumps on board with a brilliant director, Derek (Jack Davenport) -- whose talent is matched by his cunning and egocentric amorality.

What a wonderful choice for this week! I adore Katharine McPhee. I remember her when she was on American Idol, and I wanted her to win so badly (though I was glad Taylor Hicks won, too). She's funny, intelligent, a good actress, and she has a great voice. She's beautiful inside and out!

As I've said, I tend to have a decided preference for an air of "innocence", and chidlike playfulness--which most of the pics project nicely, while also possessing a sense of the sultry.

BTW...anyone take note of the fact that the vast majority of the pics have her as...NOT blonde?

THE PATTERN HAS BEEN BROKEN!!!

Well, this seems like a perfect occasion to bust out the "Wait, why the fuck is Chuck singing with the American Idol runner-up" video.

Up btw.

UP, Way The Hell UP!!

Seriously, and I mean it, about one of the only brunettes that for me gives Kate Beckinsale a run for the money.

She was one of my potential picks last year, but Aragorn said he was going to have her as a BOTW anyway. She's mighty pretty, with a great smile.

I rooted for her on Idol, although even then I thought acting could turn out to be her main career path. She caught Steven Spielberg's eye when she was on Idol and he called her up and said he'd like her to be in one of his productions sometime - and some years later that has come to pass with Smash.

Now, I'm an equal opportunity admirer of women of all hair colours, but some women are strongly suited to one hair colour above all others, and Kat McPhee is one of them. When she cut her hair short and dyed it blonde it caused a great disturance in the Force.

Don't keep up with American Idol (though the Mrs. has been known to) so I didn't know this girl.

That said...

Hubba.

(P.S. I know I'm going to get rapped in the mouth for this... while she's okay as a blonde, she is stunning as a brunette.)
