Oh I dunno - I still hear people complaining about that 6 years later.

If I had to lay odds I'd put it at about 90% likelihood that whenever Craig moves on and a new Bond is cast, the choice will be someone who isn't actually on any of the lists! (Same goes for the twelfth Doctor Who.)

^ I agree with you about that. Back when Brosnan was still the incumbent and we used to have 'Next James Bond' threads here, Daniel Craig never once was mentioned.

Brosnan was always going to be in the running to replace Dalton, but I don't think there's anyone that obvious out there at the minute.

IIRC there were tons of us pulling for Colin Salmon to get the role. I know I was, unlikely as it was going to be, he'd still be awesome as Bond. Yeah, I don't remember Craig's name coming up. He wasn't really that well known at the time obviously. I think he'd only done the excellent Matthew Vaughn flick "Layer Cake".

SO...looks like they're going retro, with this Bond! In Casino and QoS, he had a modern Aston Martin...but now...the DB5 is back, eh?

Chalk me up as someone else who'd have been very interested to see Salmon as Bond.

The incessant whining about Craig's hair color was IMO one of the most absurd quasi-controversies of the last decade.

I remember that Clive Owen was mentioned a lot as a possible Bond - but I'm not sure he was ever wild about the idea. I'm not sure that some of the actors mentioned, like Fassbender, will want to play Bond - he has established himself as a serious actor who does versatile roles, but any actor who gets to play Bond risks being forever identified by that role. It's a very risky move. Then again, if X-Men:First Class gets several more sequels, playing Bond may help him not be over-identified as Magneto, kind of like McKellen avoided being identified by the wide public by just one iconic big franchise role, since he played both Gandalf and Magnero.

Owen basically became the Internet's darling after Croupier and his BMW commercial, but it's my understanding that he never auditioned, nor was he ever under consideration, to be Bond after Brosnan's departure. Him always being a front-runner was little more than the Internet's version of the telephone game.

I think Clive Owen as interested in Bond. If you want a hint of how he might have played it, check out his Bond spoof in the first Steve Martin Pink Panther film (best part of the movie, IMO).

^ I hoping not, one of things i like most about the last two films is the lack of the Q-branch's "little toys."

The next film can only be made better by their continued absence.

Well, the "modern" Aston in Casino had a few things--a selection of gadgets we get a brief glimpse of when he pulls out the defribrilator.

At any rate--have believable modifications--ones that you can accept are there. An oil slick isn't too far-fetched, to be honest.

The gun compartment was believeable. The defibrillator was just there to serve a purpose later in the movie.

That's how most Bond gadgets are really.
