I've always said Janeway was the most like Kirk and I think their response to events demanding action were similar.

janeway didn't see it that way when she was talking about Kirk in Flashback.

JANEWAY: It was a very different time, Mister Kim. Captain Sulu, Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy. They all belonged to a different breed of Starfleet officer. Imagine the era they lived in. The Alpha Quadrant still largely unexplored. Humanity on verge of war with Klingons. Romulans hiding behind every nebula. Even the technology we take for granted was still in its early stages. No plasma weapons, no multiphasic shields. Their ships were half as fast.
KIM: No replicators, no holodecks. You know, ever since I took Starfleet history at the academy, I always wondered what it would be like to live in those days.
JANEWAY: Space must have seemed a whole lot bigger back then. It's not surprising they had to bend the rules a little. They were a little slower to invoke the Prime Directive, and a little quicker to pull their phasers. Of course, the whole bunch of them would be booted out of Starfleet today. But I have to admit, I would have loved to ride shotgun at least once with a group of officers like that.

She was civilized, and Kirk was not.

Half as fast, that's why your journey back is slower than it would take a Constitution Mk II Class.

It's really only between Kirk and Janeway, isn't it? I mean, Picard was basically a diplomat in a more settled era, Sisko was more like a mayor, and didn't really face continual tests of courage, and Archer is an incompetent nitwit who got his captaincy either through blatant nepotism, or by rigging a raffle in his favor.

But Kirk and Janeway found themselves in repeatedly dangerous situations facing the unknown. But I give the nod to Kirk-he only had Spock as an ace in the hole -Janeway had Tuvok, the Doctor, and later Seven as a collection of super-beings.

Substitute Borg for Romulans and this describes her experience in the Delta quadrant. Except unlike Kirk she was all alone, no Starfleet backup.

I think you can see that at time, a certain enjoyment of being on frontier space in the DQ.

I would have not believed janeway would win this type of poll, but am happy that she did. It should say something for the actress playing her and the character being played.

Afterall, who's popular with me may not be who's popular with you, and that's okay. My enjoyment of Voyager doesn't depend on whether or not Janeway wins a poll. She'll always be number one with me, as will the series. These polls are just out there to make us chuckle. No need for WWIII to be declared.

I couldn't give a fig about Roddenberry. As far as I'm concerned post Roddenberry Trek was better.

With Jeff Hunter bowing out, Majel should have been a Captain and the lead in the 60s.

A rather...enchanting point of view my friends. I am not saying Roddenbery was better than Berman (that's for another debate) but I thihk secretly he would be pleased they got a woman in there without relying on her having a status as a sex symbol.
