I'm not sure I'm going to bother with seasons 1 or 2, but Give Season 3. That's the season I really got into TNG.
The rational person in me says most of the good episodes are in seasons 3 through 5; the spendthrift completist in me says I must have them all. I wonder which one will win.

You realize, I'm sure, that "canon" need not exclusively refer to religious institutions like pretty much all words canon has more than one definition one being a body of fiction accepted to be "official."
If you're sure I realize it then why write this post?

P.S. I hadn't seen this mentioned before, but there are definitely more CG Enterprise shots. At the very least, the shot of her at warp without the saucer is CG.
At first I didn't think this was true, and I don't have the blu-ray to hand to check at the moment, but going by this screenshot you may be right, the ship in that image reminds me of the way the Enterprise looks in the new opening shot of "The Inner Light"...

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG Next Level Bluray watch and review thread

I finally watched all three episodes on Friday night with a buddy of mine and we were not disappointed. I think I'll need to rewatch them though because we talked a lot through the viewing because we were both so jazzed. I'm really looking forward to the full season sets.

I will say that I found the opening shot of SotF to be a little distracting. A subtle panning shot without the stars moving would have looked better. That's really the only complaint I have so far and it isn't really even a complaint.

As for scenes I can't wait to see in HD, this one is right up there:

I would like them to CGI that shot, it looks odd in SD so it will look worse in HD imho

One or two bodies floating away would be cool for that scene.

I'd be open to that but I really don't see it happening.

Ugh... The CGI we've already seen is worse than the original model work. I wouldn't expect any improvements from CGI for this scene either.

The detail model may not be perfect, but it is striking and perfectly effective. Can't wait to see this, the CU of the primary shuttle bay in Cause and Effect (along w the nacelle getting smashed), the shuttle launch from The Child, the elaborate fly-bys from Birthright, Part I and the end of All Good Things. So much amazing model work. No need to sully the show with lesser recreations.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG Next Level Bluray watch and review thread

We need to start ignoring the CGers. They really won't be pleased until the entire show is redone. It's amazing me how many people are convinced there's more CG shots in the show than the producers are admitting to. If it makes them happy...

This hull cutting scene is amazing, BTW. I'm looking forward to seeing the detail in the cut away decks.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG Next Level Bluray watch and review thread

The strange thing is that they have CGI'd the odd angle warp shot......without fixing the odd angle or changing the stars to the correct angle. Therefore it makes zero sense to do it unless they have lost that VFX element in which case they could've fixed the star angle or the ship angle blehhhhh nvm... sideways warp forever.

With CGI it can be in there, but it can't be as glaring as it is in the opening shot of Light. One thing hat I really enjoyed about the CGI in TOS-R was that the ships all looked like they could've been physical models that had been shot instead of CGI models.

I think the later episodes of TOS-R certainly looked good, but I wouldn't say all the shots achieved that level of excellence. The soft lighting on most ships rendered many of them a bit cartoon-y for my tastes, and I am a huge fan of TOS-R
