Re: Star Trek Online Discussion Thread (now free to play!)

I knew about the new ship (which I'm chomping at the bit to get) but also new content in 5 new missions?! At last! I hope the new missions will not be one of those you need 5 people, I hate those... Never can get enough people who know what they are doing to... oh well.

The Odyssey class looks very nice, cant wait to fly her... I'm still picking out a name for my new ship!

If the new missions (part of the Featured Episode series - a 5 episode story arc) are anything like the previous FE's (Breen/Deferi, Romulan, Devidian) than they will be single player with your away team. Supposedly they will be relesing the next FE (5 more episodes) shortly after this one is over.

However if the last Featured Series is any undication you can only benefit from running them with a team, since there are class specific optionals, which can add to the immersion and get you some nice accolades you can never get solo.

Since I've alast mentioned the Odyssey they've nerfed it, so I'm now less enthusiastic about getting it. I'll still do the shakedown, I just doubt I'll ever fly her after that.

I give her a go... you never know if she will get a balance pass after release... for all we know people hate her and no one flies her, then she must get a power bump of some sort.

I'm willing to give equipment or boffs (within reason) to a Lt or Lcdr that would be much better than the Fed starter pack.
Hey would you happen to have a male Human tactical boff and/or a female Betazoid science boff?

So tomorrow marks the start of new items and content. The 2 year anniversary celebration starts, with a new reward for each of the 4 days you participate, plus you can do a mission to get the new Fed/KDF ships. Then the new FE begins the following Saturday (Feb 11), which should run for 5 missions. At long last, new content is almost here !!

I was also reading the latest Tribble release notes, and they are making some great changes, including increasing the drop rate of the rare STF drops.
Yay!

From what I hear its good and tanking but no so good at damage dealing which is causing a small battle between players who want it to be a Super Assultcruiser and those who want to to stay a Super Starcruiser.

I hope what it lacks in raw punch power it makes up for with console use. I'm just not sure if I want to mount my cannons on her or use a beam array, we'll see.

I am looking forward to the event
Meanwhile..here is my new Engineering character(the red light makes him look more creepy than he is):

I also made the Vulcan science officer, though I doubt I will play with that much now.
I played few missions of the Cardassian arch with Gilmore and Im enjoying the stuff maybe even more than the Romulan missions

It'd be nice if it at least had the turn rate of a normal star cruiser, which is 7. However I still laugh that the 124 year old Excelsior design is still the best cruiser in STO. Sod those Galaxy, Sovereign and 2409 starship designs....

Man, I just played the Crystalline Entity mission for over an hour, and got nowhere. People kept ignoring the damned way to beat the thing. Eventually everyone gave up.

I hate that mission.
Even in F2P some things don't change at all.

Just a note to add, that I'm cleaning up the Bank on a regular basis at the moment and trying to ensure that there is as much variety in the items as possible.

I think I'm also going to see if I can get some low level equipment into it, which would be useful for those with a lower level toon.

As for a CE run - I'm up for that and Zylah should have the perfect setup for Timelord's plan.
We discovered a major flaw in that plan yesterday.

Whith season 5 the CE mission is no longer accessible on a whim.
Talking to the CE contact in sector space just opens up the queue window.
And on top of that, the whole thing is an event now similar to he Deferi Invasion. Only it doesn't show up on the calender. Not on the overview for teh month anyway. So in order to do this mission you have to be able to muster a team with just 24 hours notice and I am not really sure you can even open a private instance...
The queue window sugessted you need 4 full teams to start the damn thing!

Trek: while variety is good for endgame stuff, leveling stuff should be limited to the most useful proven items... beam arrays, quantums, cannons, covariant shields.
You should be able to create a Private queue for the CE using the second tab on that window BTW.

Yes, but still only during the event hour and then i don't know if the map requires a full 20 people/4 teams instance to start.
