Where do you get that? It would take at least 5 normal drinks for someone average size to exceed Conn's .08 BAC limit. That's given no other drugs are involved.

Agreed.

Darn near anybody can get one DUI. It's not hard to get to .08 and not realize it.

It's the second DUI that shows you really have a problem.

I can't really judge the situation since I don't know the circumstances. It is possible this was a racially-motivated arrest, and it is just as possible he drank too much and drove, simple as that.

Frankly, I'd be more concerned that he might have been unfairly targeted because of his skin color than I would be that he'd get preferential treatment because he used to be on some TV shows.

too many damn actors drink & drive.
As opposed to, what, a normal number of construction workers and school teachers? Acting is a profession, like any other, and it's unreasonable to think that there's a higher percentage of DUIs amongst actors than other professions.

From my mother who is a drunk and tiny.

As I said, I very rarely drink.

Mostly because my mother never stops.

Y'see how that works?

Childhood trauma.

One thing...

If this had happened while he was filming DS9, would he have lost his job because of some morals clause like those girls form Lost, or had to chose between Rehab or Jail Like Rodney Downy JR who was suddenly unavailable for for season 5 of Ally Mcbeal...

Who would have gotten the Sisko's command if young Avery was making the same foolish choices?

Re: Avery Brooks Arrested for DUI!

Ok well i had a lot to say about this, then the computer logged me out and i lost it. So it will be short and sweet.

I do not think less of the man for his allegedly driving under the infulence. He is human. Humans make mistakes. Alchohol and drugs impare judgment, what seems crazy to the sober man, makes perfect sense to to the impared. Alcoholism and addiction are diseases and must be treated as such. Only through undertanding the disease and treating is can this sort of thing be prevented in the future.
It saddens me greatly to read this as Mr. Brooks's portrayal of Sisko helped me with my own addictions. I will be praying for him. It is important not to attack the man, for that often pushes an addict deeper into thier addiction, only though wanting to work a program and support can a addict become a recovering addict.

Now whether this is the case or not remains to be seen. But I truely feel bad for Mister Brooks, when one is arrested for a DUI, the guilt, embarassment, and shame are so heavy already, that i really think the last thing he needs is trek fans of the world telling him how he failed them. This is only the first step, its what he does from here that will define him. And yes relapse is part of the recovery process, and its a long road. But accepting that one is powerless over a substance is the first step. And it seems to me if one gets behind the wheel while intoxicated and thinks thats a a good, sane, rational, and normal idea, then the probably suffer from some form of this disease. And diseases require treatment.

Mr. Brooks portrayal of Captain Sisko helped me in my recovery from drug addiction and alcohol. He gave me strength to do what needed to be done, which meant leaving the person i loved more than anyone else in the world, because she was still using. and it saddens me greatly to read this, and will pray for him. I hope for support with this BBS community instead of judgments and accusations that protray him as some kind of bad guy. No one ever smokes weed and wants to become a junkie, nobody ever has thier first beer and wants to become an alcoholic. But it happens, and the diesase takes control of someone, and thier lives and thier actions, change is necessarry. Many times peoples reasons for using are the symptom are a larger mental problem. And with treatment the underlying illness can be found and treated as well
Entering a treatment program and admiting that they are powerless over thier substance of choice and they want to stop is what must be done...Nobody can do it for u when u are an addict, that has to come from within, but having support of family and freinds is helpful. I hope that if this does turn out to be the case with this man that this BBS community will support him in his battle against his disease.

ll.

As others have mentioned he failed a sobriety test, that does not mean he was driving whilst intoxicated.

Besides in the 21st century isn't a better tool the Breathalyser which actually does use some chemistry to estimate the BAC.

They would have written him as being away with the prophets (like away with the fairies only deeper) and Kira would have been temporarily in command. Then eventually they would have bumped her back down to second in command and brought in some hard ass officer you were supposed to hate for the first few episodes until he revealed something touching about himself and after that you loved him.

OMG!

Brooks is 63?

I watched Brooks most recently on Shatner's 'Captains' Documentary and I think maybe a mistake has been made with this Arrest and they didn't realize Brooks always acts like he's on something.

Getting a DUI doesn't make him a drunk or an addict. Until otherwise announced, it is a lapse in judgment.

Introducing Harry Morgan as Captain Sherman Potter.

KIRA: "What the hell is a tontine?"
ODO: "It's a pledge, isn't it?"
POTTER: "Give that man a sheroot."
KIRA: "What the hell is a sheroot?"

well, I actually like Avery Brooks, but any celebrity who has attained the cash flow he has, or better, has absolutely no excuse for getting a DUI. It's not like they can't afford a taxi.

Well, he was cited as "driving erratically." He acted erratically too, so... he was only staying in character.
