And about $200 of unnecessary vinyl.

Paradise Lost by John Milton

Translations of Plato's Republic and The Caterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.

Chaucer translated The Republic at some point?! I never knew that! (or am I misreading what you've written?)

Some good reading you have there. The Republic is fascinating as a case, even if you disagree with many of its conclusions. Canterbury Tales can be genuinely funny (rare in a historical text) though other parts are a bit duller. Paradise Lost? I'd just advise you to persist with it, even if you occasionally find it hard work. It's worth it.
Sorry, I worded the sentence badly. I meant a translation of the Republic and a translation of The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer.

I've been interested in all three works for some time and have heard good things about all of them. My mother was the one who recommended The Canterbury Tales due to the fact that she learned and read them in the original Middle English.
Oh right; OK, that makes more sense! Hope you have fun reading them all.

Grocery shopping today. Amongst other things, I got some rather nice houmous with caramelised onions which I couldn't resist opening & promptly having on toast for a quick lunch. It's a thrill a minute round these parts...

Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

I typically don't get paid over hiatuses, so I had to be super careful with my money during the holidays. Somehow, with all the gift giving and travel, dates and meals out, etc... I managed to be really good this year and saved a lot more than I usually do, so I treated myself last night:

-A magic mouse for my MacBookPro
-The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (paperback)
-Bossypants (paperback)
-Star Trek & Philosophy (hardback)

I don't see why. My most recent purchase was a jumbo pack of toilet paper, and I plan on doing ALOT of exciting things with that.
