M'ress appreciation thread

Let's not pile upon Yarn so much. His was a fair question.

Yarn, there were members a while back who proposed a separate sub-forum focused upon the 1973 Filmation animated series, but board admins speculated the traffic for such a section would be minimal at best. And as Forbin pointed out, the timeline presented in the animated series appeared to be part of the "five year mission" (since Shatner repeats the opening credit monologue word for word), so it was decided to let any threads about M'Ress, Arex and any other elements unique to the early 70s cartoon series reside in this section.

But again, I can understand your puzzlement about a "furry" appearing in Trek. M'Ress appeared in only 5, maybe 6 of the 22 episodes produced and rather like Uhura in the original series, she wasn't given much to do other than operating the switchboard. Her biggest moment was in "Mudd's Passion" when she was affected by the con artist's "love crystals" and temporarily fell for Scotty. So don't feel bad; even if you've seen the animated episodes, it's easy to have missed her.

Though in 6, she's not in the M'Rest of the episodes. Someone was aking above who would play her if not Majel, in TMP. We were speculating on guest actors if Phase II had gone ahead, in another thread. So let me propose here one name:

Well, I have to admire your ability for throwing some very extreme curve balls into the discussion. Keeps us on our toes. Okay, how can I state this? Among several other factors (which could be misinterpreted as disparaging towards the performer), Charo doesn't strike me as the type of person who would relent to having her face hidden under layers of rubber appliances.

Thankfully, the situation is rather moot at this time.

As much as I love Charo, from seeing stage performers dressed in fur costumes, anyone who was to depict M'ress would have to be almost painfully thin. Otherwise the costume would make them look very "bulky."

With her curvy body, Charo would have been the wrong choice.

Well, we've had hairless nudity with the infamous Picard in assless chaps repeatedly showing up in the caption threads, so some might argue turnabout is fair play.

Maybe something a bit more subtle, an alluring ensemble might pass muster with our merciful moderators.

Anybody catch the 2nd season premiere of "Face Off" on SyFy last night?

The full challenge was to reinterpret the fantasy characters from L. Frank Baum's "The Wizard of Oz". The first time contestants were divided into two teams, women vs. men, and each team had to create their own designs for the Scarecrow, the tin woodsman, the cowardly lion and the wicked witch. While the ladies' team won overall with their scarecrow and drow-like attractive witch being the high points, the judges agreed the cowardly lion from the guys' team was their best effort.

They opted for a female model to dress the part as they had in mind this lion's timid and furtive nature, unable or unwilling to catch prey, has resulted in near starvation. While not meant to be an attractive character, I love what they did for the mane! If M'Ress were ever depicted in live action, the hair presented in the gallery (being cleaned up a tad) would be perfect! And the overall face would work well as some greatly aged matron or shaman.

Just thought I'd share.
