Pon Farr Research

** Please note that I have started this forum to collect information on Pon Farr and that any and all subsequent posts may be used in my research paper. By posting in this forum, you are consenting to the usage of the information that you provide. **

I am a university student who is conducting research for my Anthropology of Ritual course. I have decided to write my research paper about the Vulcan mating ritual of Pon Farr.

I would appreciate any and all relevant information that you would be able to provide in regards to this topic in response to this forum. If you possess knowledge of Pon Farr, please share it with me regarding the process, meanings, times and spaces where this takes place, etc.

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Pon Farr Research

leifer, I am very skeptical of your intentions here. I have a hard time imagining a university that would accept a subject about a fictional civilization. Please give some backup for this research project or I'll have to close the thread.

I tried Pon Farr once, but I only lasted about 10 days.

So you ignored the advice on the TV commercial and didn't call your physician for a Pon Farr lasting more than four hours.

Well, the Vulcans are very closed-mouthed on the subject. Not much information is available.

The only way to get anywhere is to conduct research in the field.

The only reson the doctor wants you to call him if you have a 'Pon Farr' lasting more than four hours is so that you can tell him how to do it.

LOL!

This thread could have SOME merit other than humor, of course. The Vulcan 7 year itch.

The idea that Saavik bore Spock's child is an interesting tidbit. One thing I'm glad to read that Voyager touched on, though still haven't seen the episode.

Re: Pon Farr Research

Pon farr threads, in my experience, usually come down to an argument between those who like to fixate on the "They only have sex every seven years!" aspect and those who maintain that, no, the only thing that's specified is that Vulcans are driven to mate every seven years, but that doesn't mean they couldn't mate as often as they want between pon farr episodes (if that's the right word). Plus jokes, of course. This counts as research?

Discussion over the canon elements as well as references in earlier script drafts?
