Nolan on the story and the choice of Bane as the villain:

"It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. This is a quote from the article, even though it hasn't been made available online yet. Apparently there are people who currently possess the article who are trying to scan it in, but here's a quote that I thought was quite interesting as well:

Wouldn't that just rehabilitate Batman? After eight years (OMG), I doubt the impact this reveal would make on the people of Gotham would be that big.
