No, it is not a discussion board, though they do have one as a part of their website.

Sorry, I was replying to RM's "Nope" comment but you posted as I was typing out my response. Thanks though!

I always want to participate but then I never do. So I'll not say anything on that this year.

What are you guys writing about?

I will be writing a fairy tale. A really long, intense fairy tale.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011

Good luck for those doing it!

I "won" last year, finished just over 53K. I'm doing a another re-write on my book from last year, and have been fleshing it out to add length. I intend to get it to a publishable length and actually start submitting it to small publishing houses. Got my first publishing credit under my belt this year, and have managed to find a renewed sense of of writing discipline. November for me will be spent getting last year's book finished now that my very busy summer has ended.

I credit my NaNoWriMo participation for helping me find a writing process that works for me.

I think you can do it, RoJoHen.

Something that worked for me was marking my daily and total word count on a calendar next to the needed pace to hit 50K. Another bit of advice: never stop for the day by finishing a scene, because it could be tough to start the next scene cold. In the second half of the month, I started writing a paragraph or two of a scene before I would stop for the night, so I could easily jump right into it the next day.

Good luck!

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011

My biggest problem is previous years is that I find other things to do that keep me from writing. Especially during Thanksgiving, when I go back home, I spend a lot of time hanging out with friends that I haven't seen since the previous Thanksgiving. I end up getting very behind in the writing, and it's way too hard to get caught up.

That was part of my problem last year. I think the biggest problem was that I went in without any real plan beyond a couple paragraphs of a concept--- got stuck, fell a few days behind and felt hopeless about a 4th of the way through it. This time I've really flushed out a lot of the story and characters in advance, leaving lots of room for creativity in the writing process but having a more defined lighthouse on the road to 50k. I'm optimistic this year. WE CAN DO IT!!

Yeah, I'm a lot more optimistic this year. I haven't been planning it quite as much as you, but I have a much better story outline in my head than I have in previous years. My story actually has some sense of a beginning, middle, and end, rather than just a beginning with no idea where it's supposed to go.

I tried to reimagine Enterprise, but not really. It was sort of a collision of Star Trek, Enterprise, and BSG. I was pleased with it. Vulcanians, androids, jump drives, it was pretty cool.

I might write another story this year.

Or do something else.

In that way you have more than me... I have no idea what my ending is--- plus, one guy event told me he thinks the level of planning I've been doing in "cheating," but eh--- I'm well within the stated rules on Nanowrimo.org .

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011

Well, when I say I have an ending, I mean I know the final scene. I don't know what it means or how I get there. It'd be like the writers of TNG knowing that the last episode would end at the poker table or the writers of LOST knowing that the last episode would end with Jack closing his eye. I have absolutely no clue what happens in between.

Sounds interesting. Can it be read somewhere?

Oh yeah I feel the same way. I'm actually collaborating with a good friend back home, in that we are both writing completely different science fiction stories, but they take place in the same universe. So she and I have shared Google docs and Skype to chat it up and talk about new ideas, our characters, plot twists and storylines (and a scene or two where our characters have interacted). It's made the process in the days up to Nov. 1st even more fun!

Know what? I want to give it a shot this year. I think the most I have written before has been 5k words, so any tips? How should I prepare?
