That's Kzinti script - originating from Larry Niven's Known Space book universe, where the "The Slaver Weapon" (adapted from the short story The Soft Weapon) and the Kzinti were borrowed from. In Alan Dean Foster's expanded novelizations of the TAS episodes, Star Trek Logs, the Kzinti and Caitians are distantly related, not unlike the Vulcans and Romulans.

BTW, though I enjoyed most of the tidbits Foster gave us for M'Ress and the Caitians in his ...Log novels, I was not too keen on his suggesting a common ancestry between the Caitians and Kzinti. That lil' flashback could have worked equally well without any mention of a "link". I mean, Kirk wasn't related to the Romulans, yet he passed himself off as one well enough to go unnoticed by a few random personnel.

Since Caitian tails are prehensile that must have felt weird, like having long hair then shaving your head.

Are Caitian tails prehensile? I remember prehensile tails were a plot development in the early Pocket Books Trek novel "Uhura's Song", but neither of the two felinoid species depicted in that story were identified as Caitian. Rather, when pronounced, they suggested a caterwailing tone.

Doug Jones...I had to research that name. Do you mean the actor who played Abe Sapien in the "HellBoy" movies?Are you wanting Jones for his nearly emaciated physique? (that sounds wrong.) For a major motion picture, it wouldn't be that critical since a six limbed character like Arex would be most likely computer animated for the bulk of his sequences. If, on the other hand, you're wanting Jones for his cultured voice, yes, I admit I rather enjoy his calming tones. But to hire him to do a severely nasal inflection kinda' defeats the reason for getting him in the first place.

Who should voice M'Ress? I'll be honest with you; I never cared for Majel's performance. It just seemed so "forced". Besides, since she's passed away, we'd have no choice but to pursue other voice artists. But whom? That's a toughy. Hmm...if it weren't for the sad fact she too has died, I'd sya, oh, maybe Eartha Kitt. She had a trilling, almost purring like quality to her voice, but unlike Majel's, it was her actual conversational voice, so it sounded more "natural".

I'm sure several on these board would opt for someone else, so it'll be interesting whom they'll suggest.

As I said, Christopher Doohan will be voicing Arex. He does a good impression of his Dad, the original voice of Arex in TAS.

Steering this thread back onto topic, at least for a post or two, here's a render I "staged" the other week, updating it from one I arranged a few years ago.



M"ress seems to be asking, "You get the feeling we're being followed?" Thankfully, before Spock can go into a long winded lecture about "feelings", the M4 unit zaps them both catatonic.
