As far as Billie Piper vs. Karen Gillan goes, I was really disappointed to learn that Billie Piper smokes, too. In both cases, frankly, I find their characters -- Rose Tyler and Amy Pond -- much more attractive than their actresses, precisely because of that point.
You're assuming, of course, that neither of Rose or Amy smoke...

I don't know, what does the evidence say? I'm not calling B.S. on the health risks of second hand smoke on that count I am on the fence until pointed to evidence either way. I'm calling B.S. on your reaction to it, I think it far more likely that your reactions to smoke have a large psychological element.
Several links here. While I may find people's reactions to this a bit amusing, smoking really is one of the more awful practices people engage in.

Uh-huh. Try working in the smoking section of a restaurant for a few years and let me know how you feel.

You've got to be kidding me. How your own common sense cannot tell you that inhaling smoke is bad for you is beyond me.

What has that got to do with evidence for or against something? Actually my common sense would agree with you, doesn't mean our common senses are correct. People often believe things that seem logical but are in fact not backed by real evidence. The post from Kestrel above leads to some interesting studies that do point to evidence.

No, I'm not American so why would I know every piece of American slang?

I question why you even need evidence. I don't need a scientific study to tell me that getting hit over the head with a hammer is not good for me.

Re: Karen Gillan: Babe of the week #37 (Sept. 2011)

I wanna know why there hasn't been a North American DVD release of the Kevin Bishop Show. We got two seasons of Catherine Tate Show on DVD over here after she joined Doctor Who - I don't think anyone in the US had even heard of it - surely a Kevin Bishop set (or at least a Best of Karen Gillan set) would be a seller.

PS. Just read some of the comments on the thread. You folks do realize that turning an "oogle the pretty girl" thread into a debate on smoking looks a bit silly, right? Save it for TNZ.

It's not strictly American slang, and if you speak English as well as you seem to then it's silly to imagine that you've never heard that extremely well traveled turn of phrase before.

Perhaps so but honestly while I may have heard it before I can't recall, and also I kind of guessed what it meant and my guess was correct but I wasn't sure. I mean I know jacked is muscular and jack off is wank but a girl having jacked up teeth? Didn't quite make sense especially because her teeth aren't that bad.

I see... well if you were not under the impression that her teeth were bad then I can understand how the context clues wouldn't do the term justice.

Sorry for being so harsh.

i've not heard that term before, but from the context of the post, i assumed 'jacked' was being employed as a synonym of 'fucked'. as in that her teeth were 'fucked up'...
