Serious question, what does jacked-up mean?
She had some sort of dental work done. Though, she had pretty big teeth to begin with.

so, when you see this scene in Blade Runner are you just outright disgusted? i think its one of the more memorable and beautiful scenes from the film personally.

Overreaction much?

Probably has something to do with one being the beautiful blond model type (whom you most likely expect to smoke) and the cute, red-haired, every-day girl type.
That's really funny considering which one is a former model (and will be playing a famous one) and which one isn't...

Re: Karen Gillan: Babe of the week #37 (Sept. 2011)

I may not have explained myself right.

First the point above on the movie-shot from Blade Runner. There's a world of difference between a cinematic or atmospheric shot of a woman, or anyone, smoking and a real person smoking.

I think it be all agreed that it's expected in noir-type movies to see the gruff detective to light a beautiful perspective client's cigarette for her. There's atmosphere, characterization, and all of that to consider when you're going to talk about people smoking in movies.

Karen Gillan has a strong following behind her due to being on Doctor Who and she also gets a boost from being a red-head and other factors so it's likely more is "expected" of her in this regard than, say, from other actors. So, yeah, it's a big disappointment to hear that she smokes.

On Billie Piper, whom I don't recall much, probably didn't have a lot "expected" of her when it comes to what she does with her life as far as smoking. Had it came up I'm sure it may have been an issue but I don't see it being as big of an issue as it is here.

I look a picture of her and I say, "She smokes?! Eh. Whatever."

Because, in my mind, it's not a disappointment.

But, being a huge lover of red-heads, to see that Karen Gillan here smokes -whom I've never seen in anything- it's a bit saddening to see/hear. Those pictures up-thread of her smoking (esp. the candid one of her on a park-bench or something) is just, to me, disgusting. Had I seen those before voting it'd have taking her from an "Up" to a "Sideways" with a bit of reservation on not going to"down."

It's not attractive to me and those pictures don't sell any "sexiness" smoking may have to it in some very constructed situations.

If it was a picture of, say, Christina Ricci smoking it wouldn't bother me nor effect a vote.

I guess, for me at least, how much the smoking degrades how I look at a person depends on the person themself.

As far as Billie Piper vs. Karen Gillan goes, I was really disappointed to learn that Billie Piper smokes, too. In both cases, frankly, I find their characters -- Rose Tyler and Amy Pond -- much more attractive than their actresses, precisely because of that point.

Hey, I really thought I put it as delicately as I could, but if you really want to go there, well, maybe you're right. I'm the first to admit that perhaps, Somalians and Haitians spend their time complaining about their allergies. I don't think they do, I think those things are mostly a matter of perspective and psychological resilience, but what do I know?
Different people will have different reactions to the smell of cigarettes, for the same reason different people have different reactions to any smell -- because people are different and there's just no accounting for it. Some people literally vomit when they smell feces, and others aren't bothered at all. It just depends on the person.

But, I promise you, your body's reaction to allergens has nothing to do with perspective or psychological resilience. It's a completely, utterly involuntary reaction to the allergen. I would never want to react that way to cigarette smoke if I could avoid it, because several members of my family smoke, but that is literally like asking me to touch a red-hot stove without getting burnt. It's just not physically possible, and it really does mess with my health that badly just to be around it.
So you're a bubble boy.
Uh, no.

And I've been exposed to smoking all my life, and all my life it has caused me health problems. Because, y'know, smoking hurts the health of people other than the smoker. It's intrinsic to the nature of smoking. It's part of why smokers should be ashamed of themselves -- they're hurting other people.

Well, yes, I am a jerk, but I thought we already knew that.

I also find it unattractive when a girl shits her pants... and then just walks around all day with shit in her pants, smelling like shit. Does anyone know if Karen Gillan is incontinent?

Well if you can point to one non-debunked peer reviewed article that shows a link between second hand smoke and health risks I'd be interested.

I'm not a smoker and don't particularly care for smoke. But I'm calling B.S.

I don't care that she smokes as long I have photos of her looking pretty while NOT smoking. I just won't save the pics of her smoking. No problem.

I don't know, what does the evidence say? I'm not calling B.S. on the health risks of second hand smoke on that count I am on the fence until pointed to evidence either way. I'm calling B.S. on your reaction to it, I think it far more likely that your reactions to smoke have a large psychological element.
