But that's almost the complete opposite of Hal's character in the comics. His father's death was traumatic, yes, but it was also inspirational to him. He became determined to be the best man he could be, and to follow in his father's footsteps, even to the detriment of his relationship with his family. He wasn't hiding his emotional baggage, he embraced it.
Not as Geoff Johns tells his origin. It was something that he worked through; his tendency, as he admitted to his youngest brother, was never to be there for anyone and to harbor deep resentment against Carol's father.

Johns has also pretty thoroughly dumped the "without fear" anger in favor of "you have the ability to overcome great fear," another improvement.

Yeah, but none of that is fear based, so much as anger. Anger at his mother for forbidding him to follow his dreams, and at the loss of his relationship to his family for following them anyways, and anger at Carol's father for what he perceived to his fault. The Hal Jordan of the comics would never spaz out in the middle of a flight, even if things went south.

Anger is based in primitive fear; the close association is survival-oriented.

And execution separates the GL film from the GL concept.

The DVD and Blu-Ray is coming out October 14. From the cinemablend article the DVD has a disappointing amount of special features (no audio commentary, a couple of featurettes, and a Green Lantern Animated Series preview).

Nowhere near as primal, sorry. The whole premise of avarice is arguably rather...civilized.

Yeah, doesn't look like there's going to be much. But to be fair, even the TDK blu-ray was pretty disappointing-- lots of random special features but very little about the actual making of the movie.

It seems there are just some movies or directors who aren't as interested in documenting or explaining everything.

Given the movie's under-performance I would expect a double dip on the home video...

Martin Campbell not being one of them. The lack of features is a corporate decision.

Re: Green Lantern: Grading, Review, Discuss, Tracking, Sequel?

I think a double dip would only depend on the sales of the first DVD combined with if they actually have enough special features footage to show on an uber edition which I seriously doubt they do. I don't believe that Campbell has ever recorded an audio commentary before on any of his film's dvd releases. I think the commentary is in fact a director and cast thingy, meaning they do them if they are available or want to do them.

What did everyone think of the "Extended" Edition of the Green Lantern movie? I noticed while looking for bluray information that it's getting trashed in all the bluray reviews...yikes.

Well I suspect most of those are people who didn't like the movie in the first place.

I can't imagine making Green Lantern LONGER would make it a better movie experience.

It's rare, but it happens sometimes. The director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven (which added about forty-five minutes of material removed from the picture by Fox) is a vastly superior movie than the theatrical version.
