A fun fact: the two equipment cases in this shot were just plain solid colored cases that were "taped" to add detail. It's amazing what a few inches of narrow art tape can do to make something visually interesting. The little rectangle was deliberately taped with white on two sides and black on the others to make it look like a raised detail. It actually works surprisingly well.

Reminds me of Mike Okuda, who turned that into an art form. He probably ordered masking tape by the truckload during his work on various Trek productions.

I actually learned that trick from Mike when he gave me a tour of the Star Trek Art Dept. back in 1990!

One of Doctor Young's overhead displays - either a bit of an homage or a quick cut-and-paste of text by someone running way behind schedule, take your pick:

Things don't tend to go well on that particular hunk of rock.

Gina Hernandez (Dr. Valerie Young) with Stephen the Otter, who insisted on being part of the crew...even though all he did was pig out at craft services and flirt with the pretty girls (okay, and boys).

This might have been covered before...but Dennis, Do you make a cameo in the movie? I think that would be kinda fun.
Hey, if it's good enough for Hitchcock....

Hitchcockian cameos are for The Birds.

Re: "Polaris"

I told Cynthia not to let Alex rewind the film. I knew this kind of thing would happen.
